No, bad idea. Delta is having operational issues; Starbucks has become like McDonalds.

when you use these gift cards, Starbs cancels your order at the last minute to give you a true Delta Air Lines experience

Best Buy has a $75 gift card offer when you buy $500 in Delta. More appealing IMO.

Absolutely not. Delta gift card money is very restricted. You'll find that they won't let you use it in many cases like you cannot mix gift card and points, you cannot use it to pay for seat changes etc.

I can go to a local grocery store and buy $300 of DL cards. I get 6% back on grocery purchases on Amex Blue Cash Preferred.* My rewards program at the store gives me extra bonuses. Since I don't drink coffee, much better deal.

*This is limited to $6000 in US spend each year, so if you hit that thresehold, not near as good.

Absolutely maybe, I submit. If you know you're going to fly DL sooner than later, and know it will be $300 or more, then why not. Buy $300 in a DL gift card, get the bonus card, book your flight, and pay your, say, $329 airfare with the DL gift card with $29 put on a credit card. Now, you have to balance the cc return you'd get on a $300 charge to DL versus getting a Starbucks card.
