Hi there! I have the Sapphire Reserve and sometimes book directly via Chase Travel with points (Points Boost, though I also still have legacy points that redeem at 1.5 cents per point). If I book a hotel that is in The Edit, can I reduce the number of points so I am left paying $250 (or slightly more) and still get the statement credit? Or can I not stack the statement credit with UR points redemption?
This article about The Edit was very helpful: https://onemileatatime.com/guides/chase-sapphire-reserve-hotel-credit/ but doesn’t answer the situation I’m in.
Separately, I actually plan to downgrade CSR to CSP. If I do that after the redemption and the hoped for statement credit, will there be any issue?
Thank you for not 'calling the bank.' (Even though what you asked is perfectly 'legal' and within T&C, but they won't like your plans.)
Yes, you should be able to stack a partial point redemption with the statement credit, as long as it is a prepaid stay with The Edit and the cash portion charged to your CSR is +$250.
Also, yes, you should be able to downgrade to the Sapphire Preferred after the credit posts, and keep the credit. (And, I don't blame you for wanting to downgrade from the CSR, especially with these tedious new coupon-book credits and the increased AF.)
Of course, things can and do get weird sometimes, so maybe it won't work.
Thank you!
@mb99, you might want to check the terms. IIRC, they added a bit about statement credits being reversed if you close the account (and maybe downgrades, too) within a certain timeframe. I think it was 90 days, but I could be wrong. Since The Edit bookings are prepaid, and you need to have an active CSR card during your stay for the benefits, you're probably in the clear. But I think that the clawback can happen for any of the credits (Edit, $300 travel, Stubhub, OpenTable, etc.), so it's something to be aware of.
