So, Chase sapphire reserve benefits list that trip delay covers family members even if you aren't traveling with them, as long as they're a family member (long list of specifics - niece/nephew, sister, brother, etc) and ticket charged to card. It doesn't say "has to be in the same household".
If said family member doesn't have the same name, is not at your address, and you weren't traveling with them, how are you supposed to prove family membership to them? Has this ever come up for anyone?

I guess this particular issue comes up (if like the claims portal software flags it), but I haven't dealt with it first-hand yet. If they really need to verify, maybe expect to have to submit birth or marriage certificates, up, down, and/or across lineage to prove 'family.' (Bring out the ole family tree if you have to! Bah!)
Keep in mind, CSR (and most premium cards) insurance coverage is extremely limited. Better protection if you purchase standalone comprehensive insurance policies for each trip and specifically list the name/age of those you wish to cover.
@1990_ thanks, not me, my wife's nephew is caught in the t-storms in NYC, but she bot him the ticket on her CSR (it was such a good deal we both have our own).
limited how? I've used it multiple times for myself after getting stranded. More than once I've actually wished for flights to just cancel so I could go get a room and not have to get home at 3am... My wife just discovered the joy of this, she got stranded at ORD, called all upset "I don't know what to do", it's like "hon, you have a $500 budget, just go find somewhere nice to stay and chill out." "WHAT??" She ended up at the Westin O'Hare and had a nice bath and a steak. Good for marital harmony, that.
We can run down marriage certs and all that but ye criminy whattapain. "Mom, can you find everyone's birth certificates so I can get $500?" "what?!"
Score on the Westin (and the steak). Yeah, hunting down those documents may be more trouble than it's worth, if it really comes to that. (Hopefully, it does not.) There've been too many thunderstorms halting flights this month in NYC (there's yet another tonight.)
As for the limits, I was thinking more how Trip Delay only covers the out-of-pocket room and meals while stranded. For instance, if she lost a prepaid night at the actual destination because of the delay, trip delay won't touch it (and Trip Interruption can be more limited on these cards; like, if you miss an expensive cruise due to weather stopping flights, recovery may be capped). Still, for your situation, an awesome perk for bailing out family, though!
Not on CSR, but on CSP when I’ve claimed trip delay reimbursement and was traveling with friends, I didn’t think it would go through for reimbursement with the receipts I had due to the relationship being friends (e.g. one receipt with everyone’s food on it but only wanting my items for requested reimbursement). I submitted a cover page of the situation including all relationships and amounts spent. On two separate occasions, I’ve had the full amount of the receipts reimbursed to me (friends and I). No relationship proof was requested and I declared them as friends on the cover page I sent to the documents portal.
I find making a short cover page with situational delay/cancelation context helps to get requests approved.
But you were there though, right? They may not look nearly as hard at that, versus "the card holder wasn't even there".
As it turns out, it doesn't come up because the nephew was able to fly after all.... which is fine, too 🙂
