Bahamas Issues Advisory About The Dangers Of Traveling To The US

We see the US issue travel warnings about travel to other countries all the time, though I don’t typically pay as much attention to travel advisories from other countries. However, following several shootings in the US the past week (and month, and year, and decade, and…), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas has issued a warning for their citizens traveling to the US, as follows:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration has taken a note of the recent tensions in some American cities over shootings of young black males by police officers.

At the commencement of the Independence holiday weekend, many Bahamians will no doubt use the opportunity to travel, in particular to destinations in the United States.

We wish to advise all Bahamians traveling to the US but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally. In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and cooperate.

If there is any issue please allow consular offices for The Bahamas to deal with the issues. Do not get involved in political or other demonstrations under any circumstances and avoid crowds.

A sign of the times, I suppose…

  1. The Australian DFAT page has similar warnings due to the us’s disproportionate gun crimes rates.

  2. Blacks are killed exponentially more often than whites – I guess the news media portrays this?

Here are the numbers of each and every unarmed citizen killed by Police in 2016 to date. Take notice that as of July, 7 there were 123 blacks killed, of those only 12 were unarmed. During that same time 238 whites were killed and of those 18 were unarmed.

In each of these cases, whether they were white or black made absolutely no difference. I could post the names and details to back up these statistics, but it is too long and the post gets clipped automatically when I try to do that.

  3. @Nick

Let’s not bring the politics into this. Please? Please?

Can’t we all just get along? Why can’t we just listen to the opposition and get over our differences? Is it incomprehensible that some others will never look at the world as we look at the world?

Maybe it’s not about who’s right. Maybe it’s about living in the one world with many people in peace.

  4. @Nick,

The entire field of psychology proves you wrong. You are no different than the climate change deniers.

  5. We need gun control. The NRA owns the racist teabaggers in congress and that needs to change; get money out of politics and get the racist teabaggers out as well.

  6. The fact of the matter is that the rate of gun crime deaths in the US are many times higher than in other Western democracies – indeed the rate of violent deaths are many times higher. So it makes sense for people from other Western democracies who are used to perhaps safer surroundings, should be warned about the dangers in the US.

  7. Nick is not wrong, look it up. People hate to know the truth. And come on I thought I’d read about the countries americans shouldn’t travel to . Like the ones we get our heads cut off or raped. Yes that’s happened too.
Oh and my travel advice..Don’t go to chicago.

  8. @Nick,

The left-leaning media will never report the actual statistics, because it doesn’t jive with the current administrations talking points, or liberal ideals. They know most people are are too lazy to go find the statistics.

  9. @Nick, just in case you or another reader might take your “statistics” at face value, please note that your “whites” include Hispanic people, so don’t really deflect the racism that they appear to, and that even if the numbers reflected actual rates for “blacks” and “whites”, there are 6 times as many “whites” than “blacks” in America, therefore, even with your stats, “blacks” are killed by police 3 times more often than they “should” be.

  10. Actually, this is good advice for ANYONE, regardless of their race, national origin, sexual orientation, etc.

  11. Actually whites because a large number of whites are more affluent than blacks, they rarely encounter police (however when hey do they regret it).

The whites that do live and encounter police are just as at risk of being killed (and a much higher risk of being the victim of a crime at the hands of a black person). When you look at the proportions of encounters with police, it then turns the “but but but there are waaay many more whites than blacks” argument upside down. It has nothing to do with race but simply, cops often have to make split second decisions in dangerous situations, and then the other part is that some are simply corrupt power happy bullies. Not that I’m expecting to change any emotional liberal’s illogical minds, it’s just some information they can choose to disregard and call me a racist for saying.

It’s laughable to me that the deaths by police is given to avoid travel to the US. I guess the bahamas hasn’t looked into crime statistics regarding black on black crime.

  12. The number of blacks killed by police in the US is miniscule compared to the number of blacks killed by blacks. The number of blacks killed by policemen in the entire country over a year is often less than the number of young blacks killed by other young blacks in Chicago in a single weekend.

But the race mongers don’t care to mention that. Nor will they address the fact that the vast majority of those killed by police are thugs attempting to attack or kill the police, who are only protecting their own lives.

A number of studies have determined that most police are more reluctant to shoot a black person than a while person, due to the overwhelmingly higher level of scrutiny and protest that will ensue. The whole Black Lives Matter (sic) trope, which is inherently racist on it’s face, (shouldn’t it be everyone’s life matters?), and the anti-white racist screeds by folks like Al Sharpton and Jessie Williams, is starting a race war in this country, as shown by the recent mass shooting of white policemen in Dallas. But the folks who profit from stirring up racist hatred thru false accusations don’t care.

  13. @Farnorthtrader

Uhh, actually, no. To date, unarmed blacks = 12, and unarmed whites = 18. Here are the names of the unarmed whites (none of which appear to be “hispanic” people). Also the crime statistics you quote in relation to population hold absolutely no value. So now we are all supposed to “commit crimes equally?” Of those who commit crimes? Maybe blacks commit more crimes and therefore they deal with cops more often (sorry, I had to say it). CRIME is not a RACE issue.

    Here they are:
Dylan Nobles, Andrew Henson, Todd Brent Burroughs, Travis Moore, Christian Bowman, Jeffrey Darrell Hobbs, Eric John Wilson, Jeff Robertson, Dion Daman, Joshua Grubb, James Scott, Brandon Stanley, Travis Boyd Bradley, Abraham Mitchell Fryer, Michael Brown, Daniel Shaver, Kelsey Rose Hauser, Ciara Meyer.

So stop perpetuating a LIE that has been germinating now for oh, I don’t know – a long time but especially THE LAST 8 YEARS. There are well over 300-MILLION people in the United States that the cops have to contend with (most of whom never have an issue). At times, yes – a cop may screw up, become afraid, pull the trigger when they shouldn’t have. But in every profession a person can screw up, and one must wait for the facts to come out and find out what really happened. There is even a bad apple from time to time that has to be weeded out. But all of this SHOULD NOT (REPEAT SHOULD NOT) be turned into a race issue. It isn’t a race issue. It was never a race issue. We all need to get along, and stop making everything a “race” issue. This war on cops is getting innocent cops killed.

Those perpetuating this as a race issue are those dividing the country. I’m not one of them, and I judge everyone based on their own merit. Enough said, I’ve given you enough to think about.

  14. Added Note: The “Michael Brown” I mention above was a white guy, not the one that you have heard so much about.

Michael Brown, an unarmed 25-year-old white man, was shocked with a stun gun and shot on Jan. 31, 2016, on a street in Saginaw, Tex. Brown physically attacked several of his neighbors. When Saginaw police arrived, he attempted to attack officers. A toxicology report indicated he had methamphetamine in his system.

  15. Well said, All .I also don’t see whites out saying to kill blacks..yet BLK is calling for whites to be killed.
Our media and government has made race relations worse.

  16. 1. “It would take 40 years worth of blacks killed by cops to equal the number of black killed by other blacks in one year”

    2. “Less than 400 people a year are killed by cops, 61% of them are white. 32% are black”

    3. “Black males are 58% of those killed by justifiable self defense…75% of those are by other blacks.”

    4. “Blacks are 27% more likely to attacks whites than vice versa…8 times more likely to attack hispanics”

    5. “90% of murdered black die at the hands of other blacks.”

  17. Well, my wife and I are issuing a “travel advisory” of our own and cancelling plans for our annual trips to the Bahamas later this year. If they are going to be bigoted assholes, then they won’t be receiving any of our money. It’s not like there aren’t plenty of other places that offer the exact same experience as the Bahamas without their race-baiting bullshit.

  18. @ Steve +1

Especially since the level of crime against Tourists in the Bahamas is way higher than in Tourist areas of the US. 😉

  19. Really Steve… Just what in that advisory bothers you? The part where they tell their (primarily black) citizens to cooperate and not be confrontational with the police? Is it the guidance to avoid demonstrations and to not participate in them? Is the advisory incorrect in saying that there are tensions at this moment in time? Sounds like you’re looking really hard to find something to be outraged about.

  20. We have observed the BLM ‘movement’ mutate into the BH ‘movement” by the criminals using it as a shield to
Lash out at Police and the general population despite their innocence..
Similar to the other ‘hadist’ movements….and BTW heed the previous posters advice, avoid Chicago this Summer….

  21. Ben. Why would you bring something up likely to stir the pot? I’m losing respect for you. Stick to what you do best.

  22. So, just turn a ‘blind eye’ to what is occurring ? That is what brought us to this sorry state…

  23. Let’s not get so worked up over the politics or racial tension, shall we?

This news is simply an interesting reflection that, while many Americans regard their home country as the most developed/safe place and consider many parts of the world “dangerous”, others have opposing perceptions.

It’s good to keep this perspective in mind when people warn you that Europe or South America or Middle East is dangerous to travel to.

  24. Responding to black people being murdered by cops by saying “90% of black people who are murdered are murdered by other black people” is like responding to doctors who sometimes inject their patients with lethal doses of drugs by saying “almost all people who die are not killed by their doctor”. The issue at hand is that black people in the US are being murdered in cold blood by those who are sworn to protect them.

  25. The “issue at hand” is that some. Such as yourself, interpret the ongoing tradgedy in your perspective, in order to satiate your
Interpretation…your ‘example’ is frankly ludicrious….bullets kill ! No matter what color ! It is currently dangerous to commute on Chicago X ways due to random shootings and random blockages by BLM
Against innocent travelers…whom the Police are also “sworn to protect”…should those affected also loudly protest and demand protection ? ?
