Lately, we’ve seen several good Amex Offers for hotel stays, including for stays at select Hilton brands, Marriotts, Ritz-Carltons, and more.
Now there’s a new Amex Offer for yet another hotel brand.
With this new, targeted Amex Offer, you can earn $50 back or receive 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend $250+ at Crowne Plazas in the US by November 30, 2018.
Personally, I value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so the 5,000 bonus point offer is better than the $50 offer, since I value 5,000 points at $85.
It’s interesting to see this offer from Amex, especially since IHG’s co-branded credit card, the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, is issued by Chase.
All eligible room rates and room charges should qualify towards this offer, including taxes and other fees. It would appear as if you could use this even for a stay after the deadline, as long as your room is charged prior to the deadline (so if that’s the case you’d want to book a pre-paid rate — just make sure the hotel actually charges you at the time you book, because sometimes hotels don’t charge you right away for pre-paid rates). You don’t have to spend the entire $250 in one transaction, but rather multiple transactions should qualify.
This promotion is targeted, though it at least seems to be pretty widely targeted, with the exception of Hilton and Starwood cards, which makes sense.
Personally, I value 5,000 Membership Rewards points at $85, so when you combine that with the promotion IHG is launching shortly, you’re potentially looking at a very nice return on your Crowne Plaza spend.
Was your account targeted for this promotion, and will this cause you to stay at a Crowne Plaza?
@chub
I agree respectable hotel but international so not qualifying for the promotion
That’s the only CP I have stayed at besides Los Angeles Airport where the room smelled like a dead body was under the bed
Ever wonder why most AmEx offers are limited to Hilton/IHG/Marriott stays in the US? Doesn't AmEx want to compete with Chase for a share of international travel spend? I have an upcoming trip to New Zealand and will be at the Crowne Plaza - Auckland, the charge for which will likely go on my CSR. For almost a decade, my Gold Premier Rewards used to be my go-to card for travel spend, until I got the Reserve.
Not targeted on Everyday. Got many offers for other hotels though.
Fwiw, CP Manama was quite nice when I stayed there in 2016.
@Dwondermeant
Idk about the US (since I mainly stay in Marriott/Starwood and Hyatt brands). The only Crowne Plaza I’ve ever stayed at is Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, which was fairly decent for an airport hotel.
Value aside
Is there really a decent premium Crowne Plaza in the US worth staying at ?
If you get each offer on a different card, I assume you can take advantage of them both, whereas if you get the same offer on multiple cards, I assume you can only take advantage of it once?
Crowne Plaza works fine at an airport.
Can you redeem this offer for services at Crown Plaza other than a hotel stay, like dinner at the hotel restaurant, bar, spa services ? How will they know if u stayed there or not if all they need to see are charges from a Crown Plaza ?
When has anyone ever chosen to stay at a crowne plaza?
