The Andaz Maui initially opened in 2013, and has become one of the most popular hotels on the island, especially with World of Hyatt members looking to earn and redeem points. In addition to the main hotel portion of the property, there are also 30 villas.

Not only are these great accommodations for groups traveling together, but they could also be an awesome way to earn World of Hyatt points. In this post, I’d like to talk a bit more about them, and also discuss the best way to book.

The Andaz Maui has 30 villas on property

In addition to having 290 standard accommodations (255 rooms and 35 suites), the Andaz Maui also has 30 villas. This includes 11 traditional villas (which opened around the same time the property initially opened), plus 19 Ilikai villas, which opened in 2021.

Now, I think it might be a stretch to call these “villas,” in the sense that they’re not standalone. Rather I’d consider these to be very large suites in a building. The 11 traditional villas have a different number of bedrooms. However, each of the 19 Ilikai villas feature three bedrooms, and the building is named “Ilikai,” which is the Hawaiian word for “horizon.”

I stayed in one of the new Andaz Maui villas shortly after they opened, and you can read my review here.

What kind of villas does the Andaz Maui have?

Since they’re the newer accommodations, let me focus on the 19 newest villas, which come in a variety of configurations, including different views and bedding types, depending on preferences and budgets.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • Each villa features three bedrooms and at least three bathrooms
  • Each villa features a garden, partial ocean, or ocean view; the garden view rooms feature plunge pools
  • Most villas have 2,100-2,500 square feet of living space, with a private lanai and outdoor seating
  • Each villa has a gourmet Miele kitchen, plus a washer and dryer
  • There’s a top floor 4,500 square foot penthouse with a glass bottom plunge pool

Here are the available room types from least to most expensive, and in some cases there are more than one of each villa:

  • There’s a garden view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a bunk bed
  • There’s a garden view villa where one bedroom has one king bed, one bedroom has two queen beds, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s a partial ocean view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s a partial ocean view villa where one bedroom has one king bed, one bedroom has two queen beds, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s a partial ocean view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a bunk bed
  • There’s a partial ocean view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s an ocean view villa where one bedroom has one king bed, one bedroom has two queen beds, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s an ocean view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a trundle bed
  • There’s an ocean view villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has a bunk bed
  • There’s a 4,200 square foot penthouse villa where two bedrooms have one king bed, and one bedroom has two queen beds

How expensive are the Andaz Maui villas?

Unfortunately you can’t redeem World of Hyatt points for stays in the Andaz Maui villas, and for that matter you also can’t use suite upgrade awards for this room. So what is pricing like?

As you might expect, pricing can vary a lot based on the season and holidays. It looks like rates for a villa start at $1,800 per night during the regular season, and go all the way up to nearly $10,000 per night during festive season. There’s a three night minimum stay throughout the year, and during festive season there’s an even longer minimum stay.

Fortunately there are ways to get a lot more value for your Andaz Maui booking.

What’s included with Andaz Maui villa bookings?

If you book a villa at the Andaz Maui you’ll be entitled to the following additional perks:

Why the Andaz Maui villas might interest people

For groups traveling together, the villas at the Andaz Maui are a great option. Let me be clear, obviously these villas aren’t cheap, so I’m not writing about this because it’s some amazing deal everyone should take advantage of right away. However, I actually think the pricing is reasonable compared to paid rates at the Andaz Maui for regular guest rooms:

  • Generally it looks like villa pricing starts at roughly three times the price of base rooms at the resort
  • If you would otherwise pay cash for a stay at the Andaz, and if you’re traveling with a group where you’re booking three rooms, I’d absolutely choose a villa over three guest rooms
  • You’ll have a lot more privacy, a lot more space, and a brand new building that feels fresh and modern; for example, standard guest rooms start at 380 square feet, so three rooms would get you under 1,200 square feet, while here you’re getting almost twice as much square footage

You can typically find a much more reasonably priced villa if you don’t want to stay at a hotel, but this is a unique option for Maui that’s not unreasonably priced compared to the cash rate at the Andaz otherwise.

These villas give you hotel amenities and more space

Bottom line

In addition to the main part of the resort, the Andaz Maui also has 30 villas. While these villas are obviously pricey, this could be a great option for those who are traveling as a group and who would otherwise pay cash for rooms.

In general it seems that villa rates start at roughly three times the cost of a base room, so in those situations I’d take a villa over three individual rooms, given the amount of extra space you get.

If you do book an Andaz Maui villa, be sure you book through Hyatt Privé, so you can take advantage of extra perks.
