BermudAir Adds Flights To Toronto & Halifax

11

In late August 2023, we saw the launch of BermudAir, a new airline offering service between Bermuda and the United States. The airline initially offered flights from Bermuda (BDA) to three destinations — Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and Westchester (HPN). Then in early 2024, the airline expanded to two more destinations — Baltimore (BWI) and Orlando (MCO).

Now the airline has announced an expansion to Canada, whereby the airline is adding two new routes.

BermudAir adds two new routes to Canada

BermudAir is expanding its service in the coming months, with the airline soon serving a new country. Specifically, BermudAir will fly to Canada, with flights to both Toronto (YYZ) and Halifax (YHZ).

BermudAir route map

As of May 17, 2024, the airline will add 3x weekly flights from Bermuda to Toronto, operating with the following schedule on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays:

2T601 Bermuda to Toronto departing 8:15AM arriving 10:30AM
2T602 Toronto to Bermuda departing 11:15AM arriving 2:45PM

The 1,125-mile flight is blocked at 3hr15min westbound and 2hr30min eastbound.

Then as of May 25, 2024, the airline will add 1x weekly flights from Bermuda to Halifax, operating with the following schedule on Saturdays:

2T801 Bermuda to Halifax departing 8:15AM arriving 10:40AM
2T802 Halifax to Bermuda departing 11:25AM arriving 1:40PM

The 866-mile flight is blocked at 2hr25min northbound and 2hr15min southbound.

Both routes will be operated by the carrier’s Embraer E175, as the airline has two of these in its fleet. Tickets for these flights are already on sale.

My take on BermudAir’s expanded service

BermudAir deserves credit for having actually launched operations, unlike so many other “airline startups.” In fairness, the airline is taking a pretty conservative approach, in the sense that it flies only two Embraer E175s, which were acquired after Flybe went out of business. To my knowledge, the airline doesn’t have any concrete growth plans beyond that, so it’s impressive to see the airline continue to improve its aircraft utilization.

Based on the distance of these flights, it’s easy enough for BermudAir to operate two daily rotations with each of these aircraft, with a morning and afternoon bank of flights. That means the airline can operate up to four daily roundtrip flights, and up to 28 weekly roundtrip flights between the two aircraft. At least that assumes that there are no mechanical issues, in which case passengers are in trouble.

What I find more puzzling about BermudAir is how quickly the carrier’s business model has shifted. The initial plan was for the airline to be an all-business class carrier, with an innovative 1-1 seat design throughout the cabin.

However, since then, the airline has decided to ditch the all-business class concept, and is instead also offering economy. Not only that, but there is no firm timeline for when the airline will actually offer the business class product it has been promising all along, which is being blamed on delays with suppliers.

So the jet continues to have an 88-seat cabin in a 2-2 configuration, and business class passengers simply get an economy seat with an empty seat next to them, plus better service.

Even with a low cost structure, I’m skeptical of how this airline is supposed to make money flying in these markets year-round, especially with no feed. I’m curious to see how BermudAir evolves…

BermudAir’s planned all-business class concept

Bottom line

BermudAir is expanding as of May 2024. The airline already serves five routes to the United States, and will soon be adding two routes to Canada, with flights to Toronto and Halifax.

BermudAir’s business model has evolved quite a bit in the months since launch, and I’m curious to see what the future holds for the airline. At this point, I’d imagine that the airline is more or less maxed out in terms of its growth potential, without more aircraft.

What do you make of BermudAir’s expansion, and the carrier’s overall prospects?

My wife and I flew Bermudair for the very first time a few days ago using a Bermuda to Boston flight and later driving the 8 hours up to Moncton, NB and Amherst, NS after friends had taken and recommended the Bermudair service. We travel between Bermuda and Nova Scotia a few times a year. We've been bumped, split up as a family and overpaying at Air Canada too many times over the years. The...

We travel between Bermuda and Nova Scotia a few times a year. We've been bumped, split up as a family and overpaying at Air Canada too many times over the years. The flight was full but the service was excellent. The seats are 2 and 2, wider than average, and the food and coffee was fresh and served in coffee mugs with no plastic. Our daughter and friends are already scrambling to book the Halifax to Bermuda flight this spring and summer. The Boston flight was only a short hour and 45 minutes but I think that was more due to a tail breeze than the Bermudair flights. I imagine the Halifax flight would be 2 hours. We will be looking to use BermudaAir as a first option in the future.

I am delighted that they are flying into Halifax! I have been a yearly visitor to the Island for over 20 years! Air Canada used to operate this flight several years ago and it was always full in both directions with so many University student and regular Canadians who used Bermuda as thier snowbird destination!

Excellent news, as my husband and I live an hour from Halifax. We'll be booking a week in Bermuda this summer. I've often heard Haligonians comment on the good 'ole days when Air Canada flew between Halifax and Hamilton (with Vanguards, and later with DC-9s).

I understand making money off of a website is tough and advertising is necessary. However, ads that auto-play audio with no easy way to stop it is not user friendly. By the way it is a t-mobile ad and it has played twice since I started this comment. I am not one of those people who threaten I will not come back because I will come back because I want to support the great content. I just want to bring awareness.

When are you going to try BermudAir Lucky? We need a trip report. They operate out of FLL (gasp!) but maybe you can handle the trek.
Can't imagine what their J product would be as there is no airline caterer kitchen in BDA.

Air Canada operated Bermuda-Halifax for many years. Natural business, leisure and student route with several Bermudian banks having back office operations in Halifax and many Bermudian students attending schools in Nova Scotia. Good to see it coming back.

They should plan their Halifax flights so that passengers can connect in Bermuda to Florida.

What's going on with the map displaying BermudAir's destinations? Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is in the middle of Florida, and way too North (right around Sebring).

Meanwhile, the point for Boston (BOS) seems to be where Providence, Rhode Island would be lol.

It amazes me how common these mistakes are on airline route announcements.

I think we can conclude that they are done by the marketing departments rather than by the pilots!
Easyjet used to have at SXF a six-foot-tall hard-plastic advertising display with various mistakes, including showing Naples to be where Rome is.
