Update: This offer for The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express has expired. Learn more about the current offers here.
One of my favorite perks of the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card and Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card are the 3x points on the first $150,000 and 5x points on the first $25,000, respectively, spent annually at office supply stores. And it seems there’s some exciting news on that front for Apple fans.
Earlier this year Staples began selling select Apple accessories, though just a couple of days ago Staples announced they’d also begin selling iPads and iPods online and in their US stores. Prices seem to be the same as you’d find directly with Apple.
So now you can earn 3x-5x points on iPad/iPod purchases at Staples. It’s worth noting that Staples is also part of the Chase Ultimate Rewards online shopping mall, which offers up to an additional 3x points per dollar (though I’ve seen higher bonuses in the past).
The catch is that the terms & conditions seem to suggest that purchases of technology, software, and electronics aren’t eligible for points through the mall, though I’m not sure how that works in practice:
Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Shopping cart must be empty prior to accessing Staples through this site to be eligible. Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents. Not eligible on Promotional Products, technology, software, and electronics.
Regardless, even without the online shopping mall bonus I’d say this is still the best value for purchasing an iPad. In the past I’d go through MacMall.com to save on sales tax, though I’ll take 5x Ultimate Rewards points over that any day.
As a reminder, keep in mind that as of earlier this month the Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN offers double points (or triple if you choose computing as your 3x category) for purchases at select computer hardware, software, and cloud computing providers. This includes the Apple store, which is the first card I know of offering any bonuses for purchases at Apple stores.
