Airline Shopping Portal Bonuses: Earn Up To 16,500 Bonus Points

13

Online shopping portals can be a great way to pick up additional miles & points for purchases you’d make anyway. For following a specific link you can earn bonus points in addition to the ones you’d earn for credit card spending.

The number of bonus points you earn per dollar spent varies greatly by retailer, though in addition to those variable bonuses, there are often promotions that are available on all purchases. At the moment there are several shopping portal bonuses, which could be a great deal if you’re doing any online shopping.

Earn 16,500 bonus points with five portal bonuses

Several airline shopping portals are currently offering promotions for online purchases, should you have any shopping to do. If you’re going to make online purchases anyway, you might as well take advantage of these offers. Let’s go over what you need to know.

  • Earn 500 bonus miles when you spend $150
  • Earn 2,000 bonus miles when you spend $600
  • Earn 5,000 bonus miles when you spend $1,200
Earn up to 5,000 MileagePlus miles

Bottom line

Between these five shopping portal promotions you can earn up to 16,500 bonus points for spending $5,450. You can take advantage of each of these promotions, and each is based on your cumulative spending through a particular portal during the offer period. The bonus points should post within 10 weeks of when the promotions end.

If you make purchases in the right increments you could be earning over three bonus points per dollar spent, not even factoring in the points usually being offered through the shopping portals, plus the points you usually earn through credit card spending (make sure you’re using the best credit cards for everyday spending). That can add up.

Beyond airline shopping portal bonuses, also keep in mind that Rakuten is pretty awesome, as it offers a great bonus for new members, and you can earn Amex Membership Rewards points with the portal. Personally that’s what I use for most of my online purchases.

Do you plan on taking advantage of these shopping portal bonuses?

Do bonus points from the American portal count as Loyalty Points?

    1. Brent Guest

Yes, they do. If you shop a moderate amount online, it is pretty easy over the course of the year to pick up Gold, I would think. I'm a little under 1/2 way there over 3.5 months of spending, but I also use Cap One and Rakuten when the value difference is big.

NO THEY DON'T. I suggest READING a question before You answer it.

@Doug: NO they do not and it's clearly stated everywhere. With ANYTHING AA and miles related, if it says "Bonus" then that's NOT LP earning. If it says "Base" or just "Miles" then Your also earning LP's.

@Brent: You are utterly WRONG in Your response to Doug. He clearly asked about BONUS Miles on this promo. Do eShopping milea generally count towards LP's? Yes they do. Do BONUS Miles? NOT EVER IN ANY UNIVERSE. Read...

They do not sadly. They count as RDM.

I was expecting to hear about how a single shopping portal was offering an exceptional bonus. Instead, I could spend thousands of dollars to get stranded bonus points across five programs -- two of which (delta and southwest) are basically cash-back programs. This feels a lot like click bait.

“ If you make purchases in the right increments you could be earning over three bonus points per dollar spent”

    Can you elaborate on this?

For the UA and Southwest portals, if you spend precisely the amount required to trigger the highest bonus, you would get over 3 bonus points per dollar: 4.17 for UA and 4 for SW.

Just like card acquisition bonuses, the points are worthless if you weren't otherwise going to spend the money. A frequent issue with shopping portals is that you can often find the same products for less money at retailers that do...

Just like card acquisition bonuses, the points are worthless if you weren't otherwise going to spend the money. A frequent issue with shopping portals is that you can often find the same products for less money at retailers that do not participate in the portals. You don't want to effectively pay for the bonus points by paying higher prices for whatever you are buying.
