the cost of buying airline status

I was wondering if you have written anything on the notional cost or spend required to reach various tiers of an airline’s frequent flyer program? For instance, Qantas is having a double status credits offer which closes in the next two days, and here is a breakdown of how inconsistent their status credit program is in terms of fare category, the price paid, and status credits earned. Well nowadays, the 3 major US airlines (AA, UA, DL) all have a spend requirement for each of their elite tiers, so even if you somehow get the elite qualifying miles/segments, you still need to meet the spend requirement for each tier in order to obtain that status.

For other airlines, it’s going to vary quite a bit based on the status you currently have, as well as how you fly. Fare deals pop up quite a bit and they can make a difference to how much it’ll cost to get you status.
