I just made a large purchase during the recent Macy’s 12 mile per dollar promo through Alaska’s Mileage Plan promo. I entered Macy’s site through the Mileage Plan website and bought a new mattress for $1,000. When I make purchases, you almost automatically get a confirmation email from Mileage Plan after the purchase and the activity posts on Alaska’s website. I never received the email and the purchase isn’t on Alaska’s site either.

Normally, I would think this is a glitch, but something similar happened to me through AAdvantage’s shopping mall. Again, I made a large $1,000 purchase through a high mile per dollar promo and no bonus materialized.

I never have a problem when making relatively small purchases through Alaska’s or American’s shopping portals. This seems like a bait and switch situation making me question whether saving my purchases for promo bonus periods might be a waste of my time.
