American Airlines Award Ticket Taxes went up

Hi Lucky,

I was trying to book award ticket using American miles, but it now shows up $80 fee for the same flights that I paid $5.60 just couple of weeks ago. Did American raise their taxes on award tickets? I didn’t see any changes posted. Any idea if the fees might go back down of it’s there long term?

There is a close in booking fee of $75 that might be added in now. When’s your travel date?

Oh I think you’re right! The day I’m trying to book is March 1st (next week). I checked same flights in April, and sure enough it’s only $5.60.
