hey lucky,
Love the blog and I want to fly LH back from Europe in a couple weeks. I search for flights and aeroplan shows availability and expert flyer, ANA, and United all show availablity as well. When I try to book online aeroplan shows the availability but after clicking book it gives an error message. Do I just need to call in to get it booked or are you no longer able to book Lufthansa first via aeroplan

I would call. Sometimes Lufthansa space doesn’t show up online with Aeroplan (and sometimes UA and ANA display space that isn’t real or bookable), so the easiest solution is just to call.
