I’ve written many times about Qatar Airways’ exceptional premium cabin fares, which are a great way to earn oneworld miles while flying a great product. However, the catch is that usually these excellent fares don’t originate in the US — instead they’re typically valid for travel from international destinations to the US.
Qatar Airways A350
For example, a few weeks ago Qatar Airways had ~$1,500 roundtrip business class fares from Bangkok to Los Angeles, and just last week they had ~$1,300 roundtrip business class fares from Cairo to New York.
Of course for those who are US-based, a fare sale to the US isn’t as practical as a fare sale from the US. Still there, are many crazy people among us who like taking advantage of these fares (and also people based outside the US who find value in these).
Well, if you’re US-based and have been waiting for some great Qatar Airways fares originating in the US, this promotion is for you. Qatar Airways has just announced their latest 2-for-1 sale, which has some great fares originating in the US.
The basic terms of this promotion are as follows:
- Valid for bookings through November 7, 2016
- Valid for travel between November 15, 2016, and June 15, 2017
- Must travel in pairs of two
- 7-day minimum stay required
So, how good are the fares? While they’re not quite as good as those originating outside the US, they’re excellent for fares originating in the US, which are typically significantly more expensive. To give a few examples of the best deals (all pricing is roundtrip and includes all taxes and fees)
- New York to Singapore — $2,110
- Chicago to Delhi — $2,165
- Chicago to Mumbai — $2,180
- Boston to Mumbai — $2,285
- Washington to Nairobi — $2,285
There are a lot of other great offers that cost marginally more — you can find the full list of eligible cities here.
For the fare between New York and Singapore, you could fly Qatar Airways’ excellent A350 the entire way, featuring what I consider to be the best business class product out there.
If crediting these flights to American you’d earn:
- 150% elite qualifying miles
- 100% redeemable miles for segments in the “R” fare class
- A 120% mileage bonus if you’re an Executive Platinum member
- 20% elite qualifying dollars (for travel in 2017 — elite qualifying dollars for this fare are calculated as 20% of the distance flown)
This ticket covers a distance of ~21,122 miles, meaning you’d earn 31,683 elite qualifying miles, $4,224 elite qualifying dollars (more than double the usual elite qualifying dollars you’d earn for a ticket of that amount), and as an Executive Platinum member you’d earn 46,468 redeemable miles.
Considering going to Kenya for a safari? Award tickets can be tough to come by, and premium cabin fares tend to be very expensive. For ~$2,285 roundtrip you can secure business class tickets out of Washington DC.
These are some of the best Qatar Airways business class fares I’ve seen published out of the US, so I’d recommend taking a look at the entire list to see if there are any city pairs that are useful for you. ~$2,100 for roundtrip business class to Singapore in one of the world’s best business class products is an exceptional value.
If you do book one of these fares, be sure you maximize your points on the purchase. You can pay with The Platinum Card® from American Express to earn 5x points on airfare, or pay with a card like the Citi Prestige® Card to earn 3x points and get great travel protection.
Anyone considering one of these great Qatar Airways business class fares?
