FlyDubai has just opened a new lounge at its hub, taking its premium ground experience at the airport to the next level.

Details of the new FlyDubai lounge at Dubai Airport
FlyDubai has just opened a new lounge in Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport (DXB). The lounge is 900 square meters (~9,700 square feet), and can accommodate more than 200 passengers. It’s located after passport control and security, in the Terminal 2 departures area.
Since flights from Terminal 2 operate from remote stands, passengers can now board the bus to their plane directly from the lounge, which is a nice passenger experience improvement, compared to having to go into the terminal.
The new lounge has a much more modern aesthetic than the old space, with a glass facade offering unobstructed views of the apron. As it’s described, the new lounge “draws inspiration from the serene and timeless beauty of desert dunes,” and the “warm tones and minimalist aesthetics feature some of Dubai’s most iconic skylines and create a comfortable space both for relaxation and productivity.”
The lounge has a variety of seating configurations for dining, lounging, and a quiet area for relaxing. Passengers can also look forward to a wide range of dining options, including from an internationally inspired buffet, plus a la carte dining. The lounge also has shower facilities, a prayer room, workstations, and more.
FlyDubai lounge access is available to business class passengers on the airline, as well as Emirates Skywards Platinum and Gold members traveling on FlyDubai. Keep in mind that not all FlyDubai flights depart from Terminal 2, so if you’re on a flight from Terminal 3, you can use the Emirates Business Lounge.
For those not familiar with FlyDubai, the airline essentially operates alongside Emirates. While the airlines are run independently, they’re both owned by the government of Dubai. Currently Emirates exclusively flies wide body jets, while FlyDubai exclusively flies 737s, so largely operates to destinations that Emirates can’t serve. It’s quite an interesting time for the airline, as FlyDubai has ordered 787s, so plans to expand into long haul markets.
The new lounge looks much more modern than the old space. That being said, I’m curious what exactly is happening with that old lounge. Is it just being closed down, or is it going to be renovated, so that the airline eventually has two lounges? With how much growth FlyDubai has planned, it sure seems like there will eventually be a need for two lounges.
This complements FlyDubai’s new check-in area
FlyDubai really is improving its premium ground experience in Dubai. Not only has the airline opened a new lounge, but a couple of months ago it also opened a new check-in area. This is intended to offer a more seamless and personalized check-in experience.
There’s a special drop-off area for business class passengers, which leads straight to this facility.
As passengers arrive, they can take advantage of a complimentary porter service. There’s then a quiet space for relaxation, and passengers are offered Arabic coffee, dates, and refreshing towels. Inside the check-in area, passengers can be seated while check-in formalities are taking care of. Then an escort service is provided from the facility to the lounge, with fast track immigration and security.
It’s impressive that the FlyDubai check-in experience is even more personalized than what you’d get if flying in first class on Emirates out of Terminal 3.
Bottom line
FlyDubai has opened a new business class lounge at Dubai Airport, which looks like a significant improvement over the old lounge. With this, you can board the bus to your plane directly from the lounge, and the lounge even has a la carte dining. When you combine this with FlyDubai’s recently opened premium check-in facility, the airline really is investing nicely in its passenger experience.
What do you make of the new FlyDubai Lounge in Dubai?
Great improvement. DXB terminal 2 is one of the worst I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world (it’s essentially a bus station), so any time you can spend NOT there is great.
Looks like a functional space but not somewhere that encourages long stays looking at those low back chairs.
Had a great experience with FlyDubai from Male to the Dubai. I would not hesitate to fly them again even if they are classified as a budget airline by some. Way better than our sh*t here in the USA.
