We’ve known for quite some time that Chase is getting into the airport lounge game, with the opening of Chase Sapphire Lounges by the Club. While we’ve known that these lounges are coming to at least nine airports, the first opening came out of left field.

Basics of the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong

The Chase Sapphire Lounge by the Club Hong Kong has opened its doors as of today, October 25, 2022. The lounge is 11,948 square feet, and it’s located in Hong Kong Airport (HKG) Terminal 1, on level 7 near gate 40, in the West Hall. The lounge is currently open daily from 8AM until 8PM, with hours expected to be extended in the future.

The following amenities are being advertised for the lounge:

  • Locally curated menus and art
  • Fresh and seasonal dining options
  • Signature cocktails, local beer, and a curated wine list
  • Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi
  • Spaces for relaxing and working
  • An in-lounge digital experience for food and beverage orders, as well as access to media and entertainment

Some might be surprised that Hong Kong is the first airport to get a Chase Sapphire Lounge. While travel restrictions are starting to be lifted there, it’s still not nearly as open as other destinations. Ultimately this decision came down to an existing lounge being rebranded as a Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, so it was just a good opportunity.

Below are the first pictures of the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club Hong Kong.

Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong access requirements

Chase Sapphire Lounges are being operated in conjunction with Airport Dimensions, which runs “The Club” airport lounges. These are Priority Pass lounges, so that means those with the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card (review) can access the lounge by presenting their Priority Pass card.

There are of course several other premium credit cards offering Priority Pass memberships. So you’d also get access with a Priority Pass membership issued with cards like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (review) (Rates & Fees) and The Platinum Card® from American Express (review).

Unfortunately those with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (review) don’t get access to these lounges.

Other Chase Sapphire Lounges coming 2023 and beyond

As part of the announcement of the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong opening, we’ve also learned that the other Chase Sapphire Lounges in the pipeline won’t be opening until 2023. I had previously been under the impression that at least some US lounges would open this year, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Admittedly 2023 is just a bit over two months away, so that’s not necessarily a lot of time to wait.

Bottom line

The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club Hong Kong is now open. Most people probably weren’t expecting this to be the first Chase Sapphire Lounge to open, but I guess it makes sense, as it was simply a refresh of an existing lounge space.

The nearly 12,000 square foot lounge seems to have pretty nice decor, though I’m curious to see what the food and drink selection is really like.

For a Priority Pass lounge, I’d say the Chase Sapphire Lounge looks pretty great. I just expect that we’ll have some serious crowding issues at locations in the United States, given how common of an issue that is with Priority Pass lounges.

What do you make of the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong?

Is access with Lounge Key or Dragon Pass allowed?

Can access through LoungeKey, it shows up in the LoungeKey app.

Co-branding with The Club really cheapens the image. Completely ignoring the fact that any PP member can access (which is bonkers) it creates the impression that JPM doesn't have the capacity to launch and operate a lounge. Can they not compete with C1 and AXP with an in-house concept? Or do they simply not care?

Amex does not manage the HK lounge either. It is outsourced to Plaza. They even fired the American guy managing it and when it reopens it will be totally run by Plaza.

They simply care. Just different things than you.

If you've been to HKG and see the line for any Priority Pass lounges you will understand.

Never was a Club. This was previously the site of a Plaza Premium.
