It’s no secret that Amex Offers are a fantastic way to save money using your American Express cards. In many cases I save more than I pay in annual fees on my Amex cards. These discounts are valid at all kinds of merchants, from hotels to airlines to restaurants to department stores.

There’s a new Amex Offer which came out this morning, which I think could be useful to just about anyone.

The Amex Offer is for $15 off a $60 Amazon purchase, valid through December 31, 2015.

Here are the basic details of the Amex Offer:

Get a one-time $15 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a total of $60 or more online at by 12/31/2015.

What’s so great about this offer is that:

  • A vast majority of Amex accounts seem to be targeted for this promotion — all my American Express cards are, for example
  • The offer is valid for the purchase of Amazon gift cards, so you can purchase a $60 Amazon gift card and receive a statement credit of $15
  • I don’t think there’s a more widely useful retailer in the US than Amazon, so I think just about anyone would consider credit with Amazon to be just about “good as cash”

To maximize this offer and make it as simple as possible:

  • Log into your American Express account and scroll to the bottom, where you’ll see the Amex Offers you’re eligible for
  • If you’re eligible for the bonus, see if all your Amex cards are eligible; if they are, open the Amex Offers page for all your cards at the same time and click “Add To Card”
  • For all eligible cards, buy a $60 Amazon gift card which you can add to your existing Amazon balance; this will make it easiest to maximize the bonus without getting your cards mixed up

Here are the full terms of the promotion:

Bottom line

I don’t think promotions get more “good as cash” than this. In my case I have eight cards eligible for this promotion, so it will save me $120 on purchases I’d make anyway with Amazon. In my case this includes the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American ExpressStarwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, American Express® Gold CardThe Business Platinum® Card from American Express, and The Platinum Card® from American Express.

Registration for these promotions is limited, so I’d suggest adding this Amex Offer to your cards as soon as possible.

  1. There’s also $10 off a $20 Uber ride, and it’s on Twitter offers so even if you’re not targeted you can get it.

  2. I have it on all my amex cards. Hint: open a new tab in your web browser for each of your card, then add the offer one by one.

  3. Terms specifically prohibit Corporate Gift Cards – why do you believe that buying a $60 Amazon Gift Card will trigger the credit?

  4. @Bostonbali: It does trigger the credit. I just bought a $60 Amazon gift card, and then immediately received an email from American Express:
“Thanks for using your Amex Offer at AMAZON.COM LLC. Look out for a $15.00 statement credit, which will automatically be applied to your statement if your purchase meets the offer terms.”

  5. I have been using these Amex offers for a couple of years now and have enjoyed some fantastic returns. Probably about $1000 this year alone, because the retailers they partner with in Australia are all my usual shopping haunts. The best bit is that it’s not restricted by any other in-store promotion that may be going on at the same time – so you can really double your savings in some instances. The re-crediting of money always happens quickly too. Essentially it’s the reason I hold onto my Amex and don’t mind the annual fee at all – I can cancel that out with one or to good offers.

  6. No Amazon for my cards… I did see that there is no Small Business Saturday statement credit this year 🙁

“This year we are not offering a statement credit offer for Card Members on Small Business Saturday. In past years, the consumer offer was one of the ways to encourage our customers to make a habit of shopping at small businesses as they begin the holiday season. Six years later, we’re pleased to say they have…”

  7. I need to renew my Prime Student account, which comes to $50.01. Does anyone know a way to add $10 to the order to trigger the cash back?

  8. Ordered a gift card with my “registered for promotion” AMEX, haven’t received a thank you or verification email from AMEXCO yet. Usually it happens instantly.

  9. I just purchased a $60 Amazon e-gift card but I didn’t receive the amex offer email trigger. Are we sure that gift cards are eligible?

  10. What if I purchase something sold thru Amazon marketplace but fulfilled by Amazon? It doesn’t address this in promotion details.
