The Amex Offers program sometimes offers savings or bonus points on airline purchases, which can represent a great deal. We’ve just seen a new offer introduced for Delta purchases, which complements an offer that was rolled out several weeks back. Let’s go over the details of both offers.

Spend $500+ on Delta gift cards, earn 5K bonus points

A targeted Amex Offers deal offers 5,000 Membership Rewards bonus points when you spend $500+ on a Delta gift card purchase. This is valid for purchases through August 25, 2024.

Save on a Delta gift card with Amex Offers

Personally I value Amex points at ~1.7 cents each, so to me the 5,000 points are worth ~$85, making this the equivalent of ~17% back. There are some basic conditions to this offer that are worth being aware of:

  • You need to spend $500+ on a gift card purchase in a single transaction at this link
  • You can purchase an e-gift card or physical gift card, and you can’t ship internationally

This is a great deal, since it’s the equivalent of earning at least 10x Membership Rewards points on a Delta gift card purchase, which you can in turn redeem whenever you’d like, with fairly few restrictions. When you redeem your gift card, you’ll still earn SkyMiles and Medallion Qualifying Dollars for your flights, as you usually would.

There is just one catch to buying Delta gift cards — the Delta gift card purchase as such won’t code as a Delta travel purchase for the purposes of your credit card spending, since the transaction is processed by a third party.

Spend $180+ on Delta flights, save $40

A targeted Amex Offers deal offers a $40 statement credit when you spend $180+ on a Delta purchase. Note that rather than rewarding purchases directly with Delta, this instead rewards purchases via Amex Travel. This is valid for purchases through July 5, 2024.

Save on a Delta flight with Amex Offers

That’s the equivalent of up to ~22% back on a Delta flight (if spending exactly $180), which is awesome. There are some basic conditions to this offer that are worth being aware of:

  • You need to spend $180, but it can be in multiple transactions
  • You must purchase the itinerary via Amex Travel, and the flights must be marketed by Delta
  • If you make a flight purchase, the flight must originate in the United States, and be charged in USD
  • You must book by July 5, 2024, though there’s no need to actually travel by then

It would appear that this offer is specifically available on the personal version of The Platinum Card® from American Express (review), in celebration of the card’s 40th anniversary. That works out great, because the card offers 5x Membership Rewards points on airfare, including tickets booked through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 of flight purchases per calendar year, and then 1x).

value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so to me that’s the equivalent of an 8.5% return on spending right there. When you add up both the $40 statement credit and value of the 5x points, you’re potentially looking at getting over a 30% return on Delta spending.

Bottom line

There are two targeted Amex Offers deals, which can earn you bonus rewards on Delta travel. With one offer, you can earn 5,000 Membership Rewards bonus points when buying a Delta gift card, while with the other offer, you can receive $40 back when booking a Delta flight through Amex Travel.

If you have any upcoming travel to plan, be sure to check your Amex account to see if you’re eligible for these offers.

Were you targeted for these offers, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of them?
