Review: Qatar Airways Qsuites Business Class Boeing 777 (DOH-BKK)
For the second flight of my two-part birthday trip to the Golden Triangle, I flew Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777-300ER Qsuites business class on the 6hr35min flight from Doha (DOH) to Bangkok (BKK). This flight came after arriving in Qatar Airways’ Airbus A350-1000 Qsuites business class from Miami (MIA).

small idea for reviews: you always mention how you booked, I think it would be useful if you added "when" you booked as well. For example whether it was 5 days before, 6 months before, etc. You usually mention this in most of the reviews, but would be a good recurring piece of info IMO
Thanks!
You’re lucky you didn’t get pushback when ordering lunch. For the past year plus they’ve noticeably become more stingy, especially on day flights to and from Asia where they have both a breakfast and lunch menu. About half my flights the FA intitially point blank refused to let me have 2 meals, and in those cases, I’d usually get the CSD involved and even had to dykwia my plat status. A few others they were quite hesitant and also made clear that one couldn’t have starters. Finally maybe only one 2 flights was I able to get a second meal no questions asked. And fwiw, I always inform the FAs of my intention to have 2 meals and which items I’d like at the begining of the flight so as to reserve the items. This wasn’t the case pre-covid or even in 2023-24.
Q-Suite remains one of the best business class (hard and soft product) around. Whether its on 777 or a350, it's a delight. Glad this worked out for you, Ben. As I've said before, even if you 'book it right,' QR can and does swap these aircraft to non-Q-Suite, sometimes last-minute, so I do still consider you... lucky.) For instance, when I booked BKK-DOH-JFK, originally it was on 777 with Q-Suite (like you experienced), then they changed to a380 non-Q-Suite, and ultimately I actually flew on an a350 with Q-Suite. Also, I know it must've been wild traveling via ME in April.
That’s right, eat at anytime anything on the menu seems to be a thing of the past. To be fair, their food waste would have been astronomical.
Great to see QR back at the top of its game, all the more thanks to Starlink, and I can’t wait to see how the Qsuite Next Gen compares when it launches on the 777X. You’ve also been very lucky (ha!) to never have had a single negative experience on QR, be it a plane swap, bad service or a less-than-stellar crew. So many have complained against QR for years, so it’s refreshing to see how they value you as a customer specifically.
That said, other airlines are rapidly starting to beat QR at its own game. The other day, I flew the Starlux A350-900 (with the Collins Elements suites) on TPE–SGN for just 15k Alaska points — OUTSIZED value for such a spectacular product. Especially impressive are Northeast Asian products like the CX Aria Suite, the JAL A350-1000 and the Starlux A350-900/1000 — as well as AF, in particular, among Western airlines. Those who don’t adapt to innovate, like SQ, are quickly losing out. SQ and BR are great almost entirely on the basis of their soft product nowadays.
With the EVAs and Starluxes of the world quickly taking the fight to QR and EY (to a lesser extent EK) in J, I’m certainly interested to know how you’d compare a Northeast Asian carrier to QR. And please, please do review Starlux’s A350 in F on a regional route like TPE to SGN or SIN — we’re all dying to read it, and you owe us that one!
I'm surprised you didn't take the chance to fly their A380 F again; I believe this is one of the more reliable routes it's on? I really like that cabin, especially because nobody ever goes to the bar and its nice to have some open space on longer flights
"Would you like anything else" is what hospitality is. Maybe you would have ordered a coffee anyway, maybe not, but the fact that anything else is being graciously offered is what, to me, sets an experience apart. Nice review.
@Ben,
Due to the larger cabin of the 777, you do get more space in the suites than you do on the A350. And the aisles are a bit wider. The aisle on the A350 does feel quite narrow.
When travelling single my preferred seats are 1A or 1K and they are noticeably more roomy on the 777. But also the rear facing double seats feel more spacious.
The first many times I flew Q-Suites it was on the A350, and I was very happy with it. It is a great product. But it was just clear the first time I sat in the 777 Q-Suites that it was just a better setup due to the size of the cabin. True there is overhead bins on the 777s but they don't stretch as far down as the A350 bins would have done, so you don't get the same feeling of low ceiling that you do on an A350 with middle bins.
You and everyone else here, including myself, are just a free reader.
Nobody owes Ben a thing. Especially a product that's both unreasonably priced and hard to book with miles.
What if he pays that much and turns out to be underwhelming for the price paid because of you. Is he supposed to visualise himself Air France or JAL or Qsuites again?
You've been so keen on gaslighting him, so maybe you can try booking the flight for Ben with your own money as a redeeming arc.
Don't want that?
Then suck it.
Boy, did somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning......splash cold water on your face, brush your teeth, and smile! You might feel better and people might actually want to hang around you...
@John obviously didn't realize how much gaslighting is going on. You do not want to hang out with Proximalier. You'll see more 737 reviews and no 787 reviews.
How dare you group other readers with him. I actually gave Ben card applications a few times. I have never demanded anything from Ben or thinks he owes me anything.
I'm offended to be group with this gaslight VT-CIE.
And EVA or Starlux is solid but is overrated almost like SQ thanks to the internet. The difference is overrated SIN is still way better than TPE.
BR and JX need to abandon TPE if they're going to be like CX or SQ or QR or EK.
Your sincere-looking care is appreciated, but don't worry. I have my own life outside here.
What's really a concern is that this person is still gaslighting Ben after ruining his trip, which he didn't even apologize for.
You're right. Although it happens that most readers here are not giving much of contribution to Ben or other readers, that's not to say that everyone here is.
I'm actually sorry for that.
Basically all airlines in Asia, perhaps except Chinese ones are overrated.
But because they're in Asia, they automatically get an extra credit granted. Suddenly, the passenger is to be blamed for any inconvenience, because they're "ignorant Americans" who never accepts cultural differences. I wonder what makes a disorganised service a cultural aspect, because what they do all the time is glaze Asia for getting things into the place well.
The fantasy and glaze come in.
TPE is indeed trash, but Mr. VT-SCAM will still want himself or Ben to fly CI 737 from there instead of KE 78X out of ICN.
Interesting. I've flown QR to/from Seoul multiple times and, aside from one flight where I slept the whole way after 1 meal, I've never had a problem with 2 meals. I've another 2 flights coming up, so I'll see if it's an issue.
Since retiring from my life of being paid for much of my international air travel, it is unlikely that I will grace a QR aircraft ever again. I have enjoyed numerous QR flights over the years and would quite happily have tried a Qsuite flight.
However, even though I am unlikely to fly Qsuites, I still enjoyed reading Ben’s review. Thank you once again Ben.
To the proletariat I would like to say, your comments might well be boring, but I really do appreciate your clicks, my thanks to you too.
Looks very world class.
But the spirits they serve on board or in their lounges has really taken a nosedive. Even Air India now has a better spirit selection.
I wonder how their wines and champagne compare to quality served back in the day ?
A serious question BBT, are the alcoholic beverages really that important to some travellers?
My choice of airlines does not revolve around the beverage selection.
