Appreciate this review, especially with a "what-to-expect" in the current climate. Great to see incremental improvements including Starlink (and caviar, even if not on this flight)! Looking forward to reading about your experience at DOH as well as your connecting flight.

I have to admit that the Qatar A350 Business Class Seat is one of my favourites too. Their A380 First Class not so, especially in comparison with the likes of SQ or Etihad.
I would still choose AF’s La Premiere over QR, if flying to SIN. Nothing to do with the current situation in the Gulf, but simply to enjoy LP once again.
As for Mrs A, she is not a lover of ME stop-overs if she can avoid it. At the end of the day …. It is “She who must be obeyed” …. 🙂
You got lucky. A few times, I’ve experienced QR swapping aircraft last-minute from Q-Suite to their ancient 777 with the 2-2-2 oldest-style business class, or non-Q-suite 787/a350, which is better than the 2-2-2, but not ideal for long-haul, especially when you expect Q-suite.
I guess this is why they call him Lucky... DXB airport was literally getting hit with missiles and drones around this same time… could’ve just as easily been DOH…
@ JR -- I did, and it wasn't a decision I made without some thought. To address 1990's point, I'd say two things.
First, there were no missiles hitting Dubai Airport around the dates of my trip (if there had been around the same time, I would've found a way to reroute). Second, I'd disagree with the point about how it "could've just as easily been DOH."
Everyone of course has to do their own risk assessment, but I'd say Iran relations differ significantly between Qatar and the UAE, and I think it would be less likely for Iran to try to attack Doha Airport. I of course could be wrong, but that was my read on the situation.
@ 1990 -- That's the benefit of booking an A350-1000, since it's the only aircraft type where every plane in the fleet has Qsuites. 🙂
Once again, I appreciate the creativity and presentation in the meal service. I wish more carriers would spend time and invest in more creative options and put more effort in their presentation.

Oh, I get it, Ben. By all means, seek out 35K. Book it. But… QR/any airline can still swap on you, last-minute. I’ve also purposely booked a350s… doesn’t matter if operational reasons result in a last-minute aircraft change. Just saying, you are indeed lucky, Lucky!
Fair enough, Ben. I’m just glad it worked out for you, namely because I want you to stick around and keep doing what you do. OMAAT (and the various blogs) would not be the same without you. And, at least as of May 2026, operations have mostly returned for QR, EK, EY, etc. I’m personally holding off on routing through there anytime soon, and sincerely want things to continue to improve for their and everywhere.

Qatar’s long-haul a-la-carte menu is excellent. You know nothing if you’re whining about it. They brought back caviar, which is a treat in J. Some of their entrees like lobster, lamb, etc. have been my favorite meals on planes. Go for the cheese plates if you ever get the chance. Otherwise, if this isn’t good-enough for you, oof; nothing will be.
1990 ... Of course he wouldn't be the same without him . Equially , you wouldn't be the same without you . Moreover , dumb people like Camel-a wouldn't be the same without her .
Lovely review and great that their service does not seem to be impacted terribly by the world events.
One comment. Much as I also love sitting by the window/fuselage, I think the functional space is better for the seats that are aisle-adjacent. (in the window seats there has to be a greater empty area for you to walk to the seat whereas in the aisle facing seats the entire storage area).
But that's carping. Overall they remain the best in the business (pun intended) and hope the continue to excel.
I Flew that same route Qsuite round trip April 5-28. BKK was the best deal back before the war (the war that at times is "not a war"), and rerouting last minute due to the situation had me paying double or triple with other airlines. The DOH airport on the 6th looked like it was a zombie apocalypse, 70% of stores closed, shops and all but main lounge closed on April 6, hundreds of planes grounded on the runways, shuttled from the plane to the gates, a sea of planes grounded. Despite the situation, Flights left on time, service was great. The food was ok, but I would say the catering was with less options than usual (no fish options, less snack options, on all 4 legs). The A380 to BKK was grounded, but we were given a Qsuite, first time a plane change works in my favor, usually you are slapped with the 2-2-2. I have been flying the Asia route sin 2018, twice a year, so i can spot some things that understandably are not at 100% as before, but the service, comfort, really make up for the slight downgrades. The free STARLINK IS a game changer, you can literally stream netflix, prime, live tv, with no lag, which means you are no longer tied to the entertainment offered, which does not change much month to month. Makes more sense to bring an iPad; you can make calls, video, hope everyone is respectful and uses headphones to not create a policy. By April 28th there were more normal operations to/out of DOH, not 100%, but maybe 50%+ of the airport stores were in service, and the airport was more fairly populated by flyers, during a truce period. The British Airways lounge in Miami is superior to the Flagship AA, bartenders, food, comfort, design, less populated, and 2 minute proximity to the departure gate, makes now no sense to walk 20-30 minutes to the flagship lounge, BA much superior to the Turkish lounge option from the past, and better than Flagship.
Alert, VP Harris would have been a far better President than Trump, any day, every day. (And yet… they have nothing to do with any of this, so I’m not sure why you brought them up. Though, technically, she probably wouldn’t have gotten us into a war that potentially threatened Ben’s flight, but thankfully it did not harm him.)
I seem to be one of the few who prefer the window seats further from the window.
They tend to feel a bit larger, are a bit easier to get in and out of, have a larger storage area (and the bit above the ottoman can acts as a place to put the blanket etc.) and (most importantly for me) I can fully experience the feeling of takeoff (the spooling up of the jets combined with the feeling of being pushed back in your seats might actually be my favourite part of flying)
Alert …. there is an age old saying …. “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it”. Had you done so then you would never have been so critical.
Both options are very gratifying. I’ve tried both and liked the window for sleeping, but the isle seat is preferred for daylight hours.
Was this before or during the war with Iran? Also, I noticed QR cut back its mid flight snack offering. Used to have the Afternoon Tea, so this is a major downgrade despite the fact it’s hard to complain about QR food in generally.
I also like the second cabin, however I find the first few rows to get exceptional service since often the cabin services manager supports the cabin crew there.

Great review and I love Qatar Airways BUT they have a lot of nerve to serve only two prawns as the main dish! Now I know what not to order on my trip scheduled for January. And I guess they are not running out of food like in the past?

I found the grey F1 PJ on your flight not very comfortable. However, they started to offer blue PJ on routes departing Doha, which is very smooth and comfortable.
Personally, I have been accused of having several other login credentials, however, all those who make such claims are well and truly wrong. Welcome to the long line of assumptive numpties N17017 …. 🙂

It is terrible, and super annoying.
Have never liked these seats. Claustrophobic when opened to a bed, and that table is in a stupid place under the tv so you knock it while trying to sleep.
Yeah I feel that for all the bells and whistles looking at the cramped footwell and being wedged between the window and table doesn’t do it for me. I just always sleep poorly on those seats.
Lucky can you comment on what Qatar routes are running right now? Service to LAX was supposed to resume May 1, and then on May 1 the website was updated to June 15. And some of the shorter haul routes are cut indefinitely. How do we tell what’s actually running?

You wrote this: "As you’d expect, the door is latched shut for taxi, takeoff, and landing." I actually would expect the opposite - that the door would be secured in the open position for taxi, takeoff and landing - so that getting out of the suite in an emergency would be unobstructed by the door.
I am pretty sure that's what happens - in all my flight I remember the door in the open position for take off, taxi and landing. I think Lucky may have meant "latched open" but that sounds weird.
I don't think you can actually latch it shut. There is no lock or latch on the inside.
Love Qatar Airways although there are a few irritations: Diptyque products smell really bad..there is no avoiding their stench on any Qatar flight; the Formula 1 pjs are fugly; the Kevin Hart safety video is super annoying.
At least they offer PJs in J, unlike Delta, which does not... (American does for F, super-long-haul, like DEL-JFK, as does United for J, like EWR-JNB, as they no longer have F.)
Fun little trick: I bring a little usb fan when in the middle seats works a treat as I find Qatar cabins to run a little warm.
Thank you for the review of my favourite airline. Two days ago, I flew KTI-SGN-DOH-MIA. The service on both legs were excellent. I make a point of chatting with the crew, at their leisure, and try to learn a little about their lives (I am a cultural anthropologist by profession). On these flights i talked to crew from India, Philippines, Maroc, Botswana (a first), Malaysia. DOH-MIA sector had a large contingent of young men from Saudi heading for World Cup, it was nice to see them enjoying their champagne! Looking forward to MIA-D0H-COK flight next month
