What Are The World's Tallest & Highest Hotels? It's Tricky...
There’s something I really love about staying in a hotel room on a really high floor, where you’re so high up that you almost feel like you’re in an airplane. So, what are the tallest and highest hotels in the world? I want to talk about that in this post, and also discuss why the…

Highest bookable hotel room, from ground floor.
Simple
I have done HKG Rotz on 90ish floor
I am glad that the Rosewood Guangzhou is getting the attention it deserves. Most people are unfamiliar with the hotel and do not make any effort to do some research . The hotel has been open for six years and there are still people who claim that the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong is the tallest hotel. And the fact that the ICC does not actually have 118 floors but only 108 is something that people have skilfully ignored to this day. And now I've also read post who claim that the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is the new tallest hotel in the world. This laziness is sad.
just canceled my stay at the park hyatt KL as they opened two weeks early and I had booked to be there for the opening day. Bummer. I had emailed them to confirm opening day, but guess a followup was not in order. heres hoping it eventually drops to Cat4
In the states I believe the highest hotel belongs to the four seasons Philadelphia. The lobby and the Jean Georges restaurant are on the top floor of the comcast technology center. If you enjoy this kind of stuff you should do a weekend trip sometime.
Great hotel and they frequently have very reasonable rates. Terrific spa too.
To add on - I think the "highest" hotel (elevation/altitude) is Tayka in Bolivia. It's at something like 16,000 feet. I tried to stay there a few years ago but couldn't make it work, but it looks very cool.
The JW Marriott in Dubai is one of the hotels that Emirates lodges first class passengers during a long layovers. It really is a very, very nice property.
I like the idea, but the highest I ever been was the Vinpearl Landmark 81, in Ho Chi Mihn, highest in Vietnam and highest in Southeast Asia before Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur if Im not wrong.
Simple indeed.
And Motel 6 would skip 300 floors and go from floor 1 to 302 taking the world record.
I think the sticking point its if the entire building is dedicated to a hotel or if it just occupies a certain number of floors within. As a dedicated hotel building the Dubai JW definitely was one of the highest, as an occupant of a few floors recently some of the highest were the Hyatts at Jin Mao tower and its neighbor SWFC
I stayed at the Park Hyatt Shanghai on the 88th floor. Just as we entered the room a massive thunderstorm hit and it was amazing to be in it at that height. This is just near tge Shanghai Tower.
I believe it’s now the intercontinental in downtown Los Angeles. The lobby is on the 70th floor of the Wilshire Grand Center.
Looking at it another way, the highest hotel worldwide that we've stayed in was a Hilton Garden Inn in Cusco, Peru, at about 11,200 feet or 3,400 meters. Like Frank in Des Moines, I think we were on the second floor. We ran into an Australian Flyertalker we knew at breakfast by complete chance. The highest US properties we've stayed in are a Doubletree and a Hampton Inn in Durango, CO at about 6,800 feet, a bit over 2,000 meters.
Who can top that?
For years I would claim I stayed in the highest hotel room in the world. 117th floor of Ritz Carlton Hong Kong - 118th floor was the pool and spa so I claimed my room was the highest.
Seems that no longer stands but I don’t think any of the newcomers rival that view over the harbour. Absolutely incredible being ‘above the clouds’ then watching them clear to reveal the harbour. Never wanted to leave the room. Best upgrade I’ve ever received.
Looks to be a very close one between the two. Comcast technology center is 20 feet taller than the Wilshire Grand. The four seasons is on the top floor - while the floor count is less than the wilshire grand it doesn’t mean it’s not as high.
I suppose we will need to figure out what height is the 60th floor at the comcast technology center and what height is the 70th floor at the wilshire grand to see which hotel is the highest in the country.
Isn't the FS in Guangzhou also just as high as the Rosewood next to it? So i should at least be in the Top 5 as well?
This is what I thought I was about to read an article about based on the title. Still very interesting by any metric.
Honorable mention: Downtown Los Angeles Intercontinental, Lobby is 70th floor.
Great story that speaks to one of my passions: staying in the highest hotels (and hotels in the tallest buildings, like the Armani in the Burj Khalifa) because of the spectacular views you have of the surrounding city. To date, this has included stays at the Lotte World Tower (Signiel Seoul), Shanghai World Financial Centre (Park Hyatt Shanghai), International Commerce Centre (Ritz Carlton Hong Kong), KK100 (St. Regis Shenzhen), Guangzhou International Finance Center (Four Seasons Guangzhou), and the Jin Mao Tower (Grand Hyatt Shanghai).
Next up for me is a tour of Asia that includes stays at Merdeka 118 (Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur), Shanghai Tower (J Hotel Shanghai), Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre (Rosewood Guangzhou), and Landmark 81 (Vinpearl Landmark Ho Chi Minh City). I can't wait for this adventure to begin in just a couple months.
Sounds great, that view over the harbor in Hong Kong — but one of the “newcomers” you mention is the Signiel in Lotte World Tower. The view from the 101st floor was stunning: both up and down the Han River, from the far east to Namsan Tower and beyond; the hills/mountains/districts of Seoul spread out all around; and the tall mountains of Bukhansan National Park strung along the horizon. Also very lucky to have excellent visibility that week!
Hello,
I stayed at Rosewood Guangzhou, asked for floor 106 but they also gave me a corner room on 104 which had a bath facing the ICF tower. So i chose the better room. Next time I can stay on floor 106. Is actually in the guiness book or world records. But what happened was a lady calle Noure showed me around a 2 or 2 and a half to 3 floor suite Shigozi or some name like that. There was floor 105 the living room and kitchen, floor 106 the bedroom and floor 107 or a half for the jacuzzi. So that was actually the highest guest room in the world. 🙂 now I will hunt the highest terrace/ balcony guest room in the world and highest openable window floor haha
