The nap rooms are fantastic, as long as you qualify.
I find the fact that the hotel programs hotels are all near the old airport a turn off as there's a bit of a long trek to get there and they're pretty unwavering on when you're allowed to leave to head back to the airport.
Careful it's Turkish Airlines. They'll screw you in a heartbeat and there's little you can. I speak from experience. Twice.
The rules for business class seem almost intentionally to deny people into the lounge sleeping rooms. If the stopover is less than 10 hours, going all the way to their hotels near old airport and then with the times they make you return means you tend to only end up with a few hours at the hotel. I don't bother unless the layover is more than about 15 hours, which, is not exceedingly common for the shortest possible connection...

We enjoyed the complimentary tour, but because we had an early morning departure we opted for the Yotel at the airport.
I had booked an itinerary with a shorter connection at IST in business class, but I was informed a few weeks before departure that the connecting flight was canceled and I was automatically rebooked on the next flight which was many hours later. I should have qualified for the nap room based on that, but when I went to try it they said I wasn't booked on the next available flight which had departed earlier. Either they reinstated that flight or had put a different on the schedule. I wasn't too frustrated about not getting the nap room, but was super annoyed I could have arrived at my final destination hours earlier.
Sounds like a great offer. However if you want to refer to the country as Türkiye, then it’s Brasil, España, Italia, Misr ( Egypt) and so forth.
I thought I was going to be taking advantage of this in 2021 but Spain had a CoVID restriction where they wouldn’t let you enter if coming from a third country at the time. I stayed in the lounge for over ten hours and napped on the couch overnight, got a shower, and had one Ty to eat and drink. I tried to get into the sleep room but they are strict about the four to nine hour requirement. There are worse ways to spend a long layover than in the Turkish airlines lounge though . I also chose not to stay and pay for a room at the airside hotel sense I was by myself.
If I am flying business class to Istanbul and want to spend a couple of days prior to a cruise ship departure can I use this program ?
The hotel given to economy passengers was horrendous- shabby, small, drab, poorly located.
Sorry, but I have to pick you up on two points here.
You say that you have to catch the next available flight but that isn't true. Indeed, TK advised me to extend my layover in IST by booking a multi-city itinerary, which I did. So, I arrive into IST of the evening of 12/11 and we're not taking our flight to CAI until the early hours of 14/11. TK has plenty of flights to CAI before then.
Second, I would seriously advise against waiting until arrival at IST to book the hotel. The hotel office can be utter mayhem and you will waste a good deal of time. In fact, I'm not sure I was even given a choice in the matter; as I recall, we were assigned a hotel by TK so we're all set for November.

Well lucky you! My experience was that you must be on the next available flight to benefit from that, intentionally booking a flight the next day doesn't cut it. Maybe rules differ by country...I've got a Nigerian passport
PC (Pre Covid) I took advantage of a complimentary hotel stay from Ethiopian at Addis. Was not offered at checkin, only due to being tipped off by a friend. Taken by bus to hotel, bit chaotic, hotel OK.

My understanding is that there are two types of free hotel that TK offers. One is for unavoidable layovers due to schedule ( https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/flights/hotel-service), and another is one that you can voluntarily choose, but it's only valid for certain routes depending on your departure country.

What cities does Turkish only fly once a day to, or not even every day like 3 times a week. Does anyone know? Knowing this would help build itineraries where this hotel provision can taken advantage of.

On the Turkish layover hotel, I have a question on eligibility:
I reserve a trip with IST connection. The IST outbound flight is below the 12/9 hrs but it’s full and I managed to book the next flight that is above 12/9 threshold. Am I eligible for the hotel?

Don’t fall for this transit hotel or Istanbul sight seeing offers from Turkish airlines. They are a waste of time. Hotel is too far from airport and kind of spooky. The sightseeing excursion is nothing but a visit to favorite shopping spots and a bad dinner.
The hotels they assign to business class passengers are pretty shabby and rundown, and as others have said, very far from the new airport (easily over an hour away). They will require you to take their bus transport, which will pick you up at the hotel to bring you back to the airport many hours before your connecting flight.
My last experience with TK included a very delayed departure from Dubrovnik, and by the time we arrived in IST, there were no connecting flights to the West Coast that same day. So they offered the hotel option. After requesting the information and name of the hotel from the person at the hotel desk, I looked it up online and said no thank you. I found something about 20 mins away from the airport, which was a decent 4 star business hotel, and just paid out of pocket, including transportation both ways. Yotel in the airport was very expensive that night for some reason.
Love TK when things go smoothly. But as others have said, they do not handle IRROPS well, and operate like an amateurish startup when presented with these situations.
We had a free stopover for 3 days in Istanbul for biz class passengers at Sheraton Atakoy but we had to pay for the shuttle that was $50. Hotel was far but great hotel and service.

Considering the time and hassle involved in getting to and from the TK -supplied hotel, as outlined by others here, I wonder if it's worth it.
Maybe the airport sleep pod is the best option (get your bathroom requirements out of the way first though!).
I have stayed at their complimentary hotel for their business class passengers. It is not worth the compliment. Get your own hotel. Pay for your own transportation. Free is not worth the hassle. Free cost me hours of precious sleep and got me a smokey room.

It didn’t change, that’s the Turkish nom de plume. That’s how they say it in their country.
Moreover the other countries didn’t change, they are Brasil, España, Italia and Misr. Do you believe Spanish people go around saying Spain? Or Japanese say Japan ( Nihon) ? These are the anglicised names.
I had a 22 hour transit and I was denied the so called, free hotel. I was offered a new flight wich I had to pay myself (500 euros).
By the way, no one at the counter spoke proper English.
We're flying Business and we're being put up at the Pullman, which may be billed as 5* but is pretty remote. Having said that, given what we're paying for rooms, i.e. zero, I don't mind spending a bit on public transport or Ubers to make getting around a little easier.
This is BS. They had the same advertisement back in March when I traveled from SFO to Dubai via Istanbul on turkish airlines which I purchased from their website. When i landed from dubai to istanbul they denied the free hotel one night stay and asked us to pay for visa. My ticket showed that i have a free hotel but the moron on the counter was an ass and did not want to honor the free hotel and visa. I wouldn’t trust this if you do make sure save this article in your phone.

This is why your layover is 11 hours or less. I had to get a hotel room for $300 dollars a night . Also, you are lucky if you find someone that speaks decent English.
One-way flights don't qualify. We had a flight BOS-VIE, with an overnight layover in Türkiye. During the booking process, it offered us a stopover in Türkiye option, to take a later flight. We did ... then found out upon trying to reserve the room that "one-way flights don't qualify".
And this was after THEY were the ones who presented the option to us, and we booked the later flight bc of it
We did take advantage of a free evening Bosphorous Cruise, with complimentary takeaway dinner (box lunch type - köfte sandwich), which was sort of nice. Although they did combine the Galataport shopping and the Bosphotus cruise into one, which made it longer than anticipated.
Recently we travel with Turkish Airlines from Karachi to U.S.A. my stop over was at Istanbul Airport was 20 hours they didn't give any type accommodation which was too much tiring and annoying where I couldn't get the bed type or anything where I can get rest proper for long hours stop over at Istanbul International Aiport nobody cooperate also this should be noted down and some compensation should be given sitting at one place for so much long hours this should noted down

I'm happy to see this news on Turkish Airlines offering free accomodation and also somewhere they announce free city tour too.
Very promising offer but it's a pure scam.
What they don't tell is after you land up in Istanbul Airport, the customer desk staff hardly understands a thing. They will send you in all the wrong directions and finally tell you that you need an evisa. If that's the case they shld contact when we buy their tickets. I and my family had 23 hrs layover. We thought they would take care of the offer and contact. Not only they stay silent but the people had no clue to help us.
We spent the whole night and day in the airport for my huge mistake of booking TA tickets.
Also I've noticed TA don't offer prices if you only need to take hand luggage only it's usually with checked in Luggage but I didn't need checked in luggage.
I think it is important to mention that there are two TK Lounges.
the Business one and the Elite one. Not many differences between them. "Movie" theater in the Elite, Museum in the Business.
Both lounges have nap rooms & showers.
There are no requirements for the showers only sometimes a long waiting list. You may need to wait over an hour before they call you.

What a bunch of moaners. Didn't tell me I needed a visa, no hotel room.
I've used TA numerous times Dublin to Bangkok. Used the nap rooms, showers and twice got the free overnight hotel ( Was the Ritz Carlton) bit crowded but it was free.
Guys get a bit of perspective.
We had a complimentary rooms for party of 5. We can tell you that the hotel was worth it. We had a nice time.
Our trip to Turkey was a mixed bag. We opted for the bosphorous tour which was a pitiful cheese sandwich(vegetarian) and stopping at overpriced brand name mall. On the way back we stayed at the Grand Yavuz Hotel. We actually stayed there for 3 nights (including the free one from TA). The breakfast buffet was decent, but situated in the tourist portion of the city, lots of people hawking their wares. Shuttle to the hotel cost 50 Euros.
Nice place to visit, not sure I'd want to return. Stay away from the Turkish Bath Cemberlitas Hamami, total rip off.

Well as someone explained above there appears to be 2 kinds: Transit and Stopover. You probably used the stopover program. The transit program alluded to in this article is dependent on the transit time and next available flight. They even gave an example on their website with London to Dubai flight. If you choose the one with a 12hr transit as opposed to the 6hr transit, you will not benefit from the program

In other words, you can’t intentionally book a connection for a later flight and still receive the free stopover hotel." - How about booking an earlier flight in? Would that work as I'm still taking the next available connecting flight, even though it was possible to book a shorter connection time?
You are not required to take checked luggage just because it's included in the fare 😉 Also, TK (sadly) does offer HBO fares on shorthaul itineraries.
Free visa is not a benefit TK offer (or advertise). They provide the hotel, but it's up to you to fulfil conditions to enter Turkey.
There is usually a wait list for nap rooms. When the airport is crowded more than likely you won't get one.
However, there are very comfortable leather sofas that you can sleep on, in the business lounge
My son and I had a 15 hour layover at the airport in Istanbul. I asked about the day tour at the customer care department and they were absolutely unhelpful. It was the worst experience as the staff of Turkish airlines were the most unhelpful. Nobody could show me where the Touristanbul desk was and they asked me if I had a Schengen visa yet I was in Istanbul for a week in January and obtained a visa online. I used Jazeera airways which is a small airline but their customer service was immaculate. I would definitely not recommend Turkish Airlines. Even the staff of Ethiopian airlines are better to deal with.

It is full of shit service, I had a layover for more than 12 hours, but they said your flights must be on one ticket. The airline puts you on the separate ticket on purpose if you have long layovers, and reception at the airport just finishes its purpose.

Does this free hotel offer going and coming back tickets in Instanbul and Madrid If need to stay More than 12 hours?

i believe you are WRONG about the hotel/tour combo. you can get EITHER one free night at a hotel, OR a free tour.
Took a free hotel offer on my way to Thailand last Nov'23. I got the hotel voucher before landing since I wasn't sure if TA would honor my 24 hours layover. At 1st, the agent at Hotel desk said I wasn't qualified since there were other flights available, then I showed him my voucher which caused him to change his tone. Still I had to get my own transportation from and back to the airport.
Agree. Saves hours of hassle getting your own hotel and transport, if you can afford it. Other option is to stay at the Airside hotel which is quite expensive.
Turkish Airlines Istanbul Stopover.
Was offered Hilton Bomonti, a hotel 1 km from public transport. Located in an area of construction. 45 minutes from the main attractions without traffic. Nothing of tourist relevance in the nearby area. No decent shopping or eating area in adjacent streets. Just another irrelevant hotel which happens to be named Hilton.
I flew economy from Newark, NJ to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines in August 2024. I attended a Turkish friend's wedding in Ordu, Turkey so I stayed in the country for one week. My final destination was Manila, Philippines. I availed of the Turkish Airlines stopover program and got a complimentary two-night stay at the Sheraton in Atakoy in Istanbul. The hotel was beautiful right on the Marmara Sea. Breakfast was complimentary. The hotel facilities are very nice (pools, sauna, steam room, hamam are all complimentary). I bought another domestic ticket on Turkish Airlines to fly to Ordu/Giresun airport. Arrived from Ordu to Istanbul at 4PM. My flight for Manila was after midnight but Turkish Airlines let me check my baggage early. Took the M11 and M2 subways (about $3 fare) from the airport and met my friends for dinner in Istanbul. Needless to say, I had a wonderful time with the stopover program. I am booking another stopover flight to Manila via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines tomorrow for a trip in February. There is an additional Turkish Airlines promotion awarding 1,923 additional airline miles for tickets booked between October 28 - 31, 2024. I have nothing negative to say about Turkish Airlines and the country itself.
I have 19 hours layover in Istanbul enroute to Los Angeles (USA) from Kathmandu (Nepal). The local airlines (Nepal) told me that the layover needs to be greater than 20 hrs to qualify for a free hotel (as does the Turkish Airlines website) so the information provided on this website is contradictory. The 20 hrs rule makes no sense to me. Any clarifications/suggestions would be appreciated.

Not true about layover. We got stuck here for 21 hours with no hotel. Been told it was our fault book flight with long layover. We got offered free meal.
When we booked Turkish Business Class recently from Vancouver/Istanbul/Paris//Istanbul/Vancouver, we were told the hotels are assigned randomly and a voucher was issued to us electronically based on the space available at the time of request just after booking our flights. For Long Haul round trips from certain countries such as Canada you are allowed accommodation of 3 nights 5 Star Hotel for Business Class and 2 nights 4 star Hotel for Economy flights. We entered the first 3 nights of our 7 night stop in Istanbul and were assigned a Renaissance Hotel with breakfasts which has great reviews. It is 20 minutes from the Old City core but we can move to a closer hotel for the remaining 4 nights. We also opted in planning for a night in Istanbul on the return at our own expense to break the long journey and leisurely enjoy the Turkish Business Class Lounge the next day before departure as we have heard rave reviews on it. So in a nutshell, you get the hotels they randomly assign.
did a 32 hour layover there ,they didnt like it cause in business put me up in nice 5star hotel along the water way about20 minutes think it was aturak there good food and ony hotel ill seen with lamborginnidealership in it ,u had to walk to road not far maybe 120 ft to get taxi to shopping area as many rolls royce in lot but werent taxis they diid nice job once u got ure vouchers u had to come to left far end then get your private van bth ways including in free hotel,only thing only waterserved with vouchers must have got 7 with the long stay there
maybe u were in coach,never fly coach international are u that poor or cant work the credit card for free flights which u must
yes big outdoor pool room was nice for 32 hour kayover got at least 7 vouchers for every meal never see so many countsiners shipped docked out in the sea ,went into town to shp ,nice countries ,nothing cheap in malls,but atm in hotel terrible rate ,but worked,nice indoor or outdoor eating area,would fly them anytime for free with miles as did ethpian do and there 5star hotel was inside the airport and food was also very good
i doubt it cause will only honor free hotel if no other flights avaible before your turkish airlines flight to flight ,but i dont fly coach at all and had very nice time on my 32 layover there it took about 30 minutes or more from one couter to annother 300 feet away to honor in business such a long 5star stay with all meals but just water or u can buy drinks,i left usa to go thailand during one of 25 or more trips to asia theses cheaper point trips ive did more thn 5 times they fly u backwards from usa to asia but im in no hurry,as once had t fly from east coast to johnansburg s.africa then to overnight in ethopian just to get flight to bkk all in business ethopia had nice hotel included cause had 14 connection
no u must book in that way on one interary ,cause everyone would want to explore a new country for days with free hotels,and must be turkish to turkish flight with no flights in between your tickets gong the same airport,asi travelled the world for 34 years in business or first

getting evisa was simple they gave u it when they handed u your hotel voucher for 32 hour stay cause ticket was that long in between,the only thing is one long walk to transfer to the very end of airport downstairs about 1200 ft at least then just outside doors was nice shuttle van privately taking u back and forth no charge to hotel just give driver a tip,thanks again turkish airlines,and i think i looked up how to get visa before i left quick and easy ,almost got another flight wuth them lately again fromusa using now after covid very hard to get buiness class fr 90000 miles thru united,but i keep getting them thru aa miles or ua milesgetting new credit cards as many asossible cause love traveling and free business or pricates the only way i fly,any questionsi d be glad help travelors ok

This statement is plain wrong. The lounge has the foot traffic of an overcrowded street market in Bangladesh. There is nothing relaxing about the experience. When I was there the last time, most of the food stations were not able to keep up with the demand, few just gave up and left. And the handful that still were in operation had a soup kitchen line in front of them. Not to mention it does not have a bar. It has a couple of hidden wine carts. And a few semi-hidden nooks on the side which have beer.
After that experience, I relooked at all those rosy videos on YouTube about this very lounge. The ones where the place was almost empty. Pretty much every one of them seem to be making the video in the early morning hours. But during the peak, this lounge is not worth the time and there's nothing relaxing about it.
@BBT - The lounge is indeed struggling to cope with the demand during main banks of flights. But I also wouldn't say that it's only relaxing in the early morning hours. I never ever fly in the morning, and most of my experiences at this lounge were still quite pleasant. I haven't experienced it exactly empty, but I usually find a pleasant space and the wait for food is very short (plus the buffet is also quite good and you don't have to wait there at all).
Programs like this can be good, but are often less guaranteed than they should be. Specifically, the “next available” caveat can be tricky, because an average passenger isn’t aware of full flight schedules (which often change, sometimes last-minute), so there’s a lot of room, by-design, for the airline to ‘deny’ you, so then you’re stuck waiting for many hours, unless you pay-up. Wish there was more transparency and clearer expectations.

I had such a different impression of this lounge based on all those rosy videos about this lounge. I was really not prepared for what i experienced. So I revisited the YouTube videos and that's what it seems, that they had been shot in early morning hours.
If it wasn't my first time, and if I was not interested to see if the crowd persisted through the 90 minutes that I had to spend in the lounge, I would've just walked off. There was nothing premium about this experience.
these are all different programs. stopover is 20 hour minimum. you can use stopover on one leg of trip and tour on the other leg. the 9 hr 12 hr layover is hotel desk service for forced layovers
Be careful…a year ago we had a 14 hour hour layover, and didn’t get to the Turkish Lounge until after 8:00 pm. At the front desk they told us that it was too late to book a hotel for us (flying business), and that we couldn’t use the sleep room because we were staying too long. We had to try and sleep in the lounge seats, which was miserable.

We flew from the West Coast of the USA to Europe via IST.
The price paid for an immediate connecting flight was the same when we selected a 3-day stop (they give 3 nights for business).
We checked all of the rules, booked the flights with a 3 day stopover in IST - tried it for the way back, only allowed in one direction. So clearly something is built into the ticketing to allow for this.
NOW - we were prepared for if it messed up. We would just book our own hotel and have a lovely time.
A day or two later we received an email telling us to login to TK and book our free 3-night stopover hotel. It was very straightforward. Once you put in your information, it showed us a list of hotels that we could choose from and confirm.
There was a Sheraton (forget which one). Le Meridien, Delta, Hilton Bomonti, and a few others. You can pick from 7 hotels.
We had researched all of them and selected the Hilton. It was excellent for where we wanted to be, and it was not my first time in IST.
TK confirmed the hotel booking within two hours with a confirmation number, and I could see it in my Hilton Honors.
Do your research, follow the rules and guidance, and you will not go through all of the horror stories I just read. NEVER turn up at the airport expecting anything. Confirm all ahead of time.
We got a decent comp upgrade, but had already researched. I wanted a Jr Suite, and my friend wanted some VIP Suite. We figured out the rack rate of the free room, and settled on having to pay 50% of the difference at check in. That was exactly what happened. I also went with a suite in the end.
The Hilton Bomonti was gorgeous. Highly recommend.
The TK 3 day stopover is seamless if you research and or follow the rules (always check your emails).
I have done a few of these, including Oman Air's (thanks to Ben for posting about that), and I have to say, you can really make these work.
The hotels TK uses for this program are typically located a significant distance from downtown. I ended up cancelling the reservation and booked my own hotel. This is a Marketing "hoopla" that provides little value.
That's what happened to us when we tried. TK said we didn't qualify when I was pretty sure we did. After arguing with the guy at the booth for several minutes, we finally just left and stayed in the lounge overnight.
The lounge is not where they accommodate you for the free hotels. You need to go to the hotel desk. The folks at the desk in the lounge aren’t very helpful.
Are you looking at the layover or free stopover requirements? For the layover the minimums are 9 and 12 hours for business and economy class travel respectively
We recently stayed at the Radisson Blu in Pera. Great location and good hotel for free.
It's a fine lounge compared to many others, thought definitely not as lovely as when the new airport was opened, let alone 15 years ago at the old airport.
(At best half of the variety in cakes, a fraction of the variety in olives, only Turkish beverages to look at it from the side.)
