Wait, firing foreigners?! I assume their work visas are being taken away and they are being sent home too right? That is so racist!
I understand that the Government of Oman is no longer willing to pay the losses. While Oman is definitely not poor, it does not have abundant resources like some other countries.
Having that said, I can understand most measures, including the redundancies discussed here. However, I am pessimistic about the all-economy-subsidiary. That’s what Avianca tried and now already scraps, reintroducing (an inferior) Business Class product.
I can understand why Oman Air are restructuring, they are a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde airline.
An example is their golf clubs policy.
They will accept golf clubs as part of a luggage allowance but the golf clubs must fit within the dimension limits ie. (H+W+L = 159 cms max)
Well duh ... there is not a golf clubs and bag that exists that can conform to those dimensions. All golf clubs in a bag are at least 200 cms !
Clearly the regulation has been created by someone who has no idea about golf !
I flew Business Class with them recently and they wanted to charge me £300 extra for my golf clubs !
And good luck trying to get any help from their 'Helpline' - utterly useless.
However, on the upside I thoroughly enjoyed my flight with them apart from the luggage issue.
Oman Air is a bureaucratic nightmare (see my golf club anecdote above) - let's hope ther new CEO can sort them out.
Have flown with them a few times and in the air Oman is excellent. Should anything go wrong like a delay or aircraft change, they are diabolical. Operate via handling agents that just don't care. Zero updates, zero information, zero customer service. Cheap and good while the wheels are on but appalling when things go off the rails.
Recently flew Oman having heard so many good things about them over the years. Thought they were very sub-par and inconsistent in service / offering across my 4 flights (Bus class).
Would put them on par with Gulf and Kuwait Airlines.
Muscat airport also not great - seriously under-utilized but still ridiculous queues at security and Oman lounge was just sad !!
Given their limited route network - not sure what they will bring to OneWorld
