It looks like Icelandair flight attendants won’t (temporarily) be replaced by pilots after all.

Flight attendants refused to budge in the negotiations until management put the the “pilots will become flight attendants” option on the table. That changed the dynamic resulting in a settlement. Very smart move.

Also, Icelandair found out recently that pilots make better cocktails than flight attendants.

The airline brass realised that the pilots would be giving away too much liquor and thus eat up profits.

Cheaper to pay the FA's than let pilots run the bar.

I read the more detailed article someone posted on the original story. The issue wasn't the union negotiators, they reached an agreement, the actual members decided to screw it up.

Wise decision by Icelandair management not to move forward with that. Frank Lorenzo once tried a similar tactic at Eastern Airlines, what followed is history.
