Ah, driving in Manila on Sundays is such a joy. For the first time in Manila our cab moved at an average of more than 5km/hour, so we made it to the airport in about 15 minutes. Our cab driver was rather cheery and started repeatedly honking his horn and making hand gestures to the…

Another kick-ass installment! Chatting with the FAs, hmm? Did you tell them you were GT's uncle, like I told you? :p

I think every airport in the world has some sort of depatrure tax. Just most airports/airlines collect it as part of the ticket

Good point, mudba. I guess what I meant to say was that I hate waiting in line for a long time in a hot room in order to give a country money. :p

Hi Lucky!

Here in Manila on business and on a similar itinerary to yours.

Flew in from KIX via HKG on CX booked in Y and was op-upped on both legs to C. Could have been my good looks but I guess the green emerald mark on my FF card caught their eye too.

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza for the second time (first time I was there I got upgraded to the same suite you had this time), but this time around only to a larger room. The lady at the front desk told me upon checking in that they had no king-size bed rooms available and was a twin bed room all right. Of course having reserved a room with a king bed I told her it was not all right and magically a room became available.

Flying out back to KIX today via HKG again, and the check-in staff fumbled around with the process, giving me another person's passport, forgetting to give me the boarding passes for the second leg, not noticing that I had a bag waiting to be checked in... ah, the joys of Manila.

Just now while waiting in the "First" lounge they upgraded me again to C for the HKG-MNL leg. Hope my luck holds too in HKG 🙂

It's really embarassing to use Manila Terminal 1. I also used that lounge back in 2008, the interiors were drab just like most of the terminal. Cathay Pacific has just recently opened its new lounge at Manila Terminal 3, and the interiors are very much like the lounge at Haneda airport. The first and business class portions are already united.
