After a great stay in Istanbul, it was time to move on to my favorite city, Hong Kong. Upon our arrival in Istanbul we had arranged to be picked up at the InterContinental at 9PM to be driven to the airport courtesy of Turkish's complimentary chauffeur service for first class passengers. While we were in…

Those gummy things are called "Lokum" = Turkish Delight is the international touristy name 🙂

Great TR again. You outdo yourself every single part.

When I flew IST-CPT in C, I was very impressed with my menu. They had written my name on the stop of the menu's.

Looks like you are a big fan of TK F on the 777. Which would you prefer new LX F, TK F 777, or LH F?

@ Basar -- Good to know, thanks! They tasted a bit.... sour!

@ mudba -- Ah, I forgot to mention they wrote the names on the menu as well. That being said, they left off the last letter of my last name both times! How the hell can you spell a name wrong when you're reading right off a manifest?

@ chitownflyer -- Oh, that's a toughie! I would say in *general* (assuming the same planes on the same routes at the same convenient times, which of course is never the case) I would take TK F, then LX F, and then LH F. I'm more of a hard product kind of guy (it's all about the seat and entertainment), and the food is great on all, so the private suites on Turkish just can't be beat.

That being said, all three airlines are excellent, in my book.

@Luck - don't be offended if someone leaves of the last letter of your nam. hehehehe. Maybe the manifest only has a certain number of characters it prints out and then truncates the rest? That kind of thing happens to my name a lot in various computer systems. LOVING the trip report!

Love your trip reports -- thanks. Really great reading!!

Found them after I booked a Star award YXU YYZ ORD FRA ATH stop ATH FRA IAH YYZ YXU in LH F / AC J. Now I have booked YXU ORD ZRH IST stop IST HKG stop HKG IST MUC ORD YYZ YXU in a mixture of LX / TK / LH in F. Sadly I get most of my miles the hard way -- flying single class DH1s and CRJs domestically on QK.

Question ... how does the car service work in IST and HKG? Where / with whom do you pre-arrange? TIA Scott.

@ YXU AC*SE -- Thanks for the kind words and sounds like a nice trip you have planned! As far as the car transfer goes, you can call Turkish in advance and they should be able to set it up. Be sure to confirm that it's in the system at check-in.

Lucky, this wouldn't happen to be you? The "friendly American" going to HKG who was writing a Trip Report? Just really curious

Love the blog, btw.

"At the end of my light meal, I noticed a man taking some pictures of the lounge and the food and had no doubt in my mind that he was a frequent traveller or a TR writer.

So I asked him, and was proved right. I also had a pleasant chat with this friendly American, who was travelling with his brother to HKG. We were like children talking about our toys. I lost his business card, so if he reads this... "

Oh, it is most definitely you isn't it -- both traveling on 19 August. Haha. Funny how that works.

"and since we were in the middle of talking he said “can you give me two minutes please?” She responded “actually no, sorry. The plane is waiting just for you.” Now that’s what I call service. "

Good for her 🙂

I read through all the Turkish trip reports and I wonder why can we not have the 9w (Jet Airways) boeings back in India. They have enough and they keep leasing them out, and only have a BOM-LHR service for themselves on it. Everything else goes with the 2 cabin Eco/Premiere, which is one of the best again, but not F!

Ben, you should update Turkish Airlines. 😉 Its been long time since your last review with TK (2x2009, 1x2013). They grow approx. %15-18 every year in terms of traffic/destinations..
