Weekly Review: October 28, 2017

Sichuan business class to LA is acceptable when the flight is not late. I've been stuck with some 5+ hour delays on that airline but I may be remembering domestic flights with them. It's hard to say anything too bad about Sichuan Airlines. They've always gone the extra mile to try to help me during delays when I've had an onward connection on a different airline. Sichuan people in general are so chill and friendly that I enjoy chatting with the FAs on their flights. When I last flew them to LA, nearly a year ago, they shunted all the passengers through an abbreviated transit in the east coast stop cities. But it still took a few hours. I assume the flights are still "direct" (with a stop).

Also FYI, Sichuan Airlines is marginally famous for carrying Lao Gan Ma sauce on their flights which they wrap in a cloth napkin to seem more refined. Lao Gan MA is one of those amazing Chinese success stories where a little old laoban with a noodle place in Guizhou defied Hong Kong private equity bankers, knock offs and I'm sure local politicians to retain family control of her own company and the quality of the product as it exhibited skyrocketing growth. The sauce enjoys a following among west Chinese communities in some ways similar to Huy Fong's Sriracha sauce in the US. You can find it in literally every Chinese market in the world today. It's loaded with mild spicy flavor and wei jing so even the worst airline food will taste pretty good with a little mixed in. Be sure to impress the FA and ask for it if you think your food could use some help.
