Considering The Bilt Palladium Card? Here’s Why You Should Apply Soon…

The Bilt Palladium Card (learn more) is the most premium card in the Bilt credit card portfolio, and personally, it’s one of my all-around favorite cards (Rates & Fees). If you’ve been on the fence about picking up this very lucrative card, I’d highly recommend applying ASAP, and definitely before the end of 2026. Let me explain…

The Bilt Palladium Card is incredibly lucrative

The Bilt Palladium Card is one of my favorite credit cards, and it’s the card that gets the most of my spending. Just to cover some of the very basics, the card has a $495 annual fee, and offers the following value proposition at the moment:

  • The Bilt Palladium Card has a welcome bonus of 50,000 points and Bilt Gold status after spending $4,000 within the first 90 days (on non-housing purchases), plus $300 Bilt Cash upon approval
  • The Bilt Palladium Card offers 2x points per dollar spent, plus 4% back in the form of Bilt Cash
  • The Bilt Palladium Card offers $200 in Bilt Cash annually as an anniversary bonus of sorts, and up to $400 in Bilt travel portal hotel credit every calendar year (this comes in the form of a $200 semi-annual credit, valid for a two-night minimum stay)
  • The Bilt Palladium Card also offers a Priority Pass membership, with up to two guests allowed (authorized users also receive a membership); review the Mastercard Guide to Benefits for full details

For me, the logic of picking up this card is pretty straightforward, and I’ve shared that in much more detail. The idea is that the combination of the 2x points plus 4% back in the form of Bilt Cash is an unrivaled return on spending, especially given the value of Bilt points. Spending on Bilt cards also earns you Bilt elite status, and that unlocks better Rent Day promotions.

On the most basic level, that Bilt Cash earns me 1x points per dollar spent on my housing payments (without any sort of fee), plus I take advantage of the Points Accelerator feature, which earns me an extra 1x points per dollar spent up to five times per year, by redeeming $200 in Bilt Cash. In other words, this card earns me 3x points on up to $25,000 of spending per year, plus I’m being rewarded on my housing spending.

Points with Bilt rack up really quickly, so if you spend quite a bit on credit cards, I do think this is tough to beat. And this doesn’t even account for the value of the hotel credit, as you can stack the credit card’s hotel credit with some Bilt Cash to get an even bigger discount on a hotel stay.

The Bilt Palladium Bilt Cash opportunity ends soon

As I’ve covered, changes are coming to Bilt as of 2027. While the changes are being made in the name of “simplifying” things, I’d argue that it only creates even more complexity, at least for existing members. Essentially, starting in 2027, Bilt members will earn points for their housing payment as a percentage of their card spending, in lieu of earning 4% back in Bilt Cash on all their spending.

The good news is that through December 31, 2026, you can still opt into the old system for being rewarded, and that will then be honored in 2027 and beyond. This applies both to existing cardmembers, and those who pick up the card before then, and select this as their earnings preference.

The idea is that if you opt into this grandfathered system and have the Bilt Palladium Card:

  • You’ll continue to earn 4% back on your spending in the form of Bilt Cash, and you can redeem that Bilt Cash for everything from housing payments, to the Points Accelerator feature, to hotel credits
  • You’ll continue to earn up to $400 in hotel credits per year, which you can stack with some Bilt Cash for hotel redemptions, rather than just automatically having that credit amount converted into Bilt Cash (which reduces your flexibility to stack credits)

Just as an example, I have more Bilt Cash than I can redeem (at least as someone who is scared of helicopters, and who finds Blacklane to be overpriced even with the Bilt Cash redemption options). However, the Bilt Cash I earn gets me 1x points on all my housing payments, maxed out Points Accelerator redemptions, elevated Rent Day offers, and Lyft and Walgreens redemptions, so I get $120 in credit with each business per year.

I think the Bilt Palladium can still absolutely be worth it under the new system, where you’d be rewarded on housing payments per the below, and would also earn $600 in Bilt Cash annually (starting in 2027), but without the 4% back in the form of Bilt Cash on spending.

Points on housingMinimum everyday spend as a % of monthly rent / mortgage (Example of $2,000 rent)
0.5x pointsSpend at least 25% of monthly rent ($500)
0.75x pointsSpend at least 50% of monthly rent ($1,000)
1x pointsSpend at least 75% of monthly rent ($1,500)
1.25x pointsSpend the same or more as your monthly rent ($2,000)

So if the Bilt Palladium Card has at all been on your radar, this would definitely be the time to apply. After all, this is what will allow you to maximize value on the card in the long run.

I prefer the old system for earning Bilt Rewards

Bottom line

Bilt is making some program changes as of 2027, which are a mixed bag. From my perspective, the biggest loss is that cardmembers are by default being switched from a system where they earn points plus flexible Bilt Cash for their spending, to one where they earn points plus rewards at a certain rate toward housing payments.

At least for me, the old system is definitely better, and the good news is that through the end of 2026, you can continue to opt into the old system of earning points plus Bilt Cash for spending, and then that will be honored in 2027 and beyond. This applies not just to those who already have the card, but also those who open the card before the end of the year. So if the Bilt Palladium Card has been on your radar, I’d recommend applying in the near future.

To those with the Bilt Palladium Card, are you opting into the old or new system for rewards?

And if you want to know why they updated Bilt Cash expiration from 12/31 to 12 months after it's earned, this is it right here - to encourage applications at the end of the year. It wouldn't surprise me if they originally announced the 12/31 expiration just to see how consumers would react to that expiration without ever intending for BC to expire then. They created an artificial run on BC, which revealed consumers were unprofitably using BC for hotel bookings. Which led to Bilt 2.1 (announced yesterday).

Every time I look into Bilt it looks even more complicated. I'll stick to spending my way to OW Emerald on Alaska Summit.
