Asia on a Whim: The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin

I've been enjoying reading your "Asia on a Whim" trip reports. One of your pictures shows some kind of bus station near the hotel. Hopefully one of those buses or mini-buses can take you straight to HK Island. But is there a subway station nearby?

By the map, the hotel is a bit out of the way from even Greater Sha Tin, let alone Tsim Sha Tsui and HK Island. Then again, there should be an MTR station "walking distance" from the hotel if I'm not mistaken. It's probably not the ideal place to stay just for an overnight, but the out of way location helped keep cost down.

I stayed at Hyatt Regency @ Tsim Sha Tsui last week. It was great! I got upgraded to the Regency Club.

Good food and great servces, and you cannot beat the location.

I think the cheapest way is to get there is to catch an Airport Express bus to Sha Tin station, then change on the MTR for University, a 2 min walk to the hotel. All up that's around 35 HKD. Bargain.

I also liked the hotel but it was a bit far from....everything =)

Your room is the exact same room as the Sheraton, overlooking your favorite hotel and the harbor, downtown Hong Kong.

I believe you wrote that the flights for this trip are aadvantage awards. Since aadvantage doesn’t allow stopovers on award tickets anymore, I’m assuming your stay in Hong Kong was less than 24hours. My question is how were you able to pick up your checked baggage up in Hong Kong? Doesn’t the airline require you to check your baggage all the way through to your final destination? If they don’t require this, what is the process to pick up checked baggage for a layover of less than 24 hours? Is it as simple as telling the gate agent you would like to pick up you checked bags at destination X? Thanks.

The HKG Airport bus reminds me of the Friendly Limousine Bus at NRT, but the NRT bus costs 3000 Yen one way.

@ rktoledo -- They automatically only check the bag to the intermediate destinations. When you have a layover of nearly 24 hours I don't think checking the bag through is even an option.

there is a walking distance mtr station next to the hyatt, and it probably takes around 45 mins at most to get to tst

and lucky, if you thought that was the nicest bus in hong kong, you're mistaken haha.

At the hotel right now; staying for 1 night.

I also took the bus from HKIA.
And like you, I was the only one on the bus 😀

The hotel seems busy.
A couple checking in beside me requested late checkout but was denied.
The room is quite spacious for HK and feels new and modern.
However, the furnishings are not the best in class; e.g. carpet is quite scratchy, wood finishing does not feel very high class (but the price reflects this and I'm more than contempt).
Will check out the club lounge later!
