Lucky how would you rate the 3 card lounges over all? Chase versus Am Ex versus Capital One?
Lots of factually false information in this article. The Ritz card has unlimited guests, not two, when entering Sapphire lounges. And the three hour limit is firm; there is no exception for connecting flights (as I found out the hard way). Even on a long connection you must wait outside until 3 hours before your next flight departs. I went back and read the terms and indeed they were correct and this blog is wrong. Chase does not have time limit exceptions for connecting flights.
I was recently turned away despite being on a connecting flight from the lounge at JFK. The most frustrating part is that they wouldn’t let me even join the waitlist until the 3 hour countdown to my flight began. What good is a 3 hour rule when there is a wait list and then you need to be at the gate long before departure? I’d have been lucky to get an hour. This is the primary reason I’ll be downgrading next annual fee. Amex was happy to let me in.
Standing outside for 40 minutes to be admitted takes the joy out of having he Saphire Reserve privileges. In the choice coming of whether to accept the increased fee for the card to pass and just keep my AMEX platinum card with its Centurion access.
I've read that the 3 hours before departure limit now applies even for layovers. Is anyone able to confirm, and if so, Ben could you update this post? Thanks.
I think it depends on specific locations if the Chase lounge is superior to others.
I can confirm that the layover exception does not apply at JFK. We got stuck with a long layover and they wouldn’t even allow us on the waitlist because our flight was more than 3 hours away. Sad. But seemed too good to be true

Airport lounges are so middle class and nouveau riche. I prefer to avail myself to the VIP services that are exclusive and cost a fortune, so as to avoid the low American middle class hordes, their flip flops, and their values.

Chase Sapphire lounges at LGA (B), BOS, SAN, may be the best lounges I’ve been to at those respective terminals. At LGA, they give Amex a run for their money; however, the one at JFK (T4) just didn’t ‘do it’ for me (prefer C1 or Amex, there). Glad they’re continuing to expand. More options is great for all of us.
Great summary - my only "complaint" with the LGA location is that showers are only available to those who book the reserve suites - the other lounges allow all guests access to the shower suites. My guess is that since most LGA flights are short-haul - that it is not a big issue. I love the sports themed bar at PHL - with all the teams represented; the Whisky Lounge at the DFW outpost (very luxuriously furnished) and the surfboard wall in San Diego

CSR nowadays feels like a "Beggar's ID", recently had a layover in IAD and all lounges (Chase, and 3 PP's) had a waiting list.
Chase should have some sort of method to reserve a spot in advance, or at least publish its waiting list on its app.
The three-hour rule is terribly inconvenient, especially when connecting (although I understand the logic to avoid overcrowding). As a Sapphire Reserve member whose travel patterns would allow for, at most, 3-4 opportunities to use the lounges, I find it particularly frustrating. Fortunately, that's why God invented refundable tickets.
3-hour…should be for 90 minutes and for only for those ppl that don’t have CSR….
Since we know Chase is not going to pay the money to buy lounge operator outright or buy exclusivity rights so it’s customers can get ample value. Soooo not like Chase.

Last time I was at the one in LGA they required the physical credit card. Who carries these things around in 2026?
The key problem now with Chase lounges is overcrowding and 30-60+ waits to get in. The experience is t good enough to go to the airport 3 hours early so your can experience. Too many people means they need to put a spending minimum in place for unlimited access say $30-50k a year otherwise limit to once a quarter. If not it’s a fake benefit that becomes useless.
Nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded. Yogi is where chase lounges are now.

Yes they’re generally solid, but… having no wait estimate in the app is awful. Often times the trek to the lounge turns into a 60 minute wait and you board by then. They need to catch up with Amex and C1 in this regard.
My other issue is being sat. I’ve waited 45 minutes before just to be given an awkward bar seat facing a blank wall. I prefer to be free range.
Oh and PHX is overstaffed in a very awkward way. Cool bar overlooking the apron, but between all the negatives I’d rather hit Amex/Escape or even Admiral’s.

CSR lounges do what they're supposed to do. It's "upper middle class"; that's good enough. They have never disappointed me. (Yeah, I've been lucky enough to have never had to wait more than ten minutes for entry.) If all you complainers go away, it'll go down to five minutes.

Agreed. Some are grateful for the blessings in their lives. Others aren't. Some are able to improvise, adapt, and overcome adversity. Others can't.
The JFK lounge is not a Chase Sapphire Lounge.
Not a "full" Chase Sapphire Lounge since it's Etihad co-branded and apparently even CSR holders are de-prioritized over Etihad premium travelers during their flight times.

I believe access previously required use of CSR's Priority Pass instead of presenting the card itself, which seemed odd. The ability to simply present the card is handy. Forgive me if I missed this in the article, I wonder if the card being in a digital wallet, as opposed to physically present, would work. Amex now allows digital wallet authentication of Platinum Cards for lounge access. (Delta lounges' NFC is non-functional.)
20 minute wait for the San Diego lounge at about noon yesterday. So busy they were sometimes behind on restocking food. Hard to find seats so we shared a round table with 6 seats. Only needed the card to access.
The Chase Sapphire lounge in Phoenix is currently being expanded in size. Construction is happening now.
I do. No way will I depend 100% on a phone with no physical backup while travelling.
