Upon arriving in Shannon we were all directed to get off the plane and reclear security. As we deplaned we were each given a transit card and our name was checked off a list. Since I had "SSSS" on my boarding pass in Kuwait (which means I was selected for additional screening), I was ushered…

Hi Lucky
Being a South African reader, I really love the wine you've chosen on both occasions that you've taken alcohol on board a dry airline.
That particular wine is our standard 'at home' wine

Ben,
Thanks for the great review! But I gotta ask, what is the big draw with quinoa? It seems that every airline is putting quinoa in their meals these days, either in the salad or the entree. Personally I find the stuff ghastly, along with cous-cous.

I suppose we'll see it in the dessert next...

Cart service of main entrees is not indicated for delicate food such as fish. The food continues to cook with the residual heat and sitting on a cart is the equivalent to continue cooking the dish. This explains the dryness. Chief should be more concerned with competent service and less about titles.

Wow, that nose camera resolution is insane. Do they use a special device or something? It's noticeably superior to any other airline I've seen.

Also what is the point of stopping in Shannon and not using the pre-screening facility? Seems like an utter waste.

Wine in a bar in Ireland on St. Paddy's day? Sacrilege!!

Agree with @adi - I just assumed you'd be going through the US preclearance facility in Shannon. Does seem like a huge missed opportunity - why don't they use it?

@ Gregg. You can use quinoa as a dessert. Cook it with orange juice, nuts and raisins or with chocolate. It's pretty versatile

@Gregg There is a world of difference between quinoa and cous-cous - the former is high in protein and a seed whilst the latter is a simple carb. Quinoa is good for you - learn to love it!

Hey Ben
I just remembered back in the old days when you drank coke with lemon 🙂
And I don't like these C class seat at all. I just flew the KLM version of it.

Ben, does the flight earn miles and can they be credited to a "mainstream" programme for use elsewhere?

Wonder if they let you drink your own alcohol in economy?

I noticed that the Shannon stop is going to change to STN, but still won't pick up passengers (nor clear US immigration, I imagine), which is a real shame as it is my local airport!

Lucky,

Their business class cabin looks like the same configuration on American domestic business class from LAX to JFK. I have been following your blog for a while now, which I think is fantastic, and it appears that there is only three or four different potential business class configurations on all major carriers. Am I accurate?

Not surprised Kuwait doesn't use the US Immigration facility in Shannon. The layover time is probably not long enough to get everyone on board again in time. I used it in Dublin last week travelling in J class from Brussels to Newark with Aer Lingus. They have no express line for business class passengers, an EU passport is not directed to the electronic passport check, there was an enormous queue and I had to stand in line for 1H30 barely making it to my connecting gate after most passengers had boarded.

@James If you think drinking wine makes you an alcoholic then you are a really sad case. Stick to your Big Macs with fries and coke.

I question a Sauv Blanc which must have been warm by the time it was opened. Nice Pinot Noir would have been better. Or did they bring the ice bucket that was occasionally available on Royal Brunei?

Agree - James is probably a less bright version of Credit

Kuwait Airways may allow you to bring your own alcohol, but I doubt that is permitted on Saudia!
