Looks reasonable for the money, as does the food. But not having decent sound proofing when people will be coming and going 24hrs a day seems like a basic fail.

Well, well, well, it looks like I got upgraded for the 12 hours I spent overnight here three weeks ago, and I wasn't told I was getting an upgrade. I booked a Solo Plus, and now I see from your photos that my room looked exactly like yours!

But the Heathrow Express doesn't take "tube" tickets so are you sure you will be admitted?

I usually take the tube between T1/2/1 and T4 or T5, because of the greater frequencies. As you say, it's free either way.

The gates will have the same card pads. The quote is listed on Heathrow's site. 'Please note from 20 May 2018, to travel on the shuttle trains, you can get a free Inter-Terminal Transfer ticket from the machines in the station. You can also use an Transport for London Oyster card or a contactless payment card which will not be charged when travelling between terminals.' The underground route is also free with an oyster card or contactless.

One less step/thing to carry by stopping to get a transfer ticket, especially as contactless bank cards become more common.

The tunnel from the train station at terminal 3 splits into two towards the end one for departures and one for arrivals. If you knew you needed to be at arrivals I don't understand why you ended up where the outside photo was taken.

I'd definitely get the Heathrow express rather than the tube when transferring T5 to T3 (and tube when transferring to T2)
