This doesn't come as a huge surprise, but International Airline Group (IAG) has just announced an order for up to 42 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, intended for British Airways -- this includes a firm order for 18, plus options for a further 24. British Airways is placing this order with plans for the aircraft to replace…

It's not actually a very premium configuration. It's a substantial reduction in premium seats compared to some of the 747s it will replace.

Some of the current 747s are: 14 – 86 – 30 – 145

I am glad they are keeping first class. But would have preferred a 747-8 order.

Will the BA 777X be delivered dirty from the factory. BA's planes are filthy! (across all cabins)

I hope the cabin wouldn't look as the one showed on promotional images posted by boeing with 2-3-2 business class layout and tiny economy seats....

Did the artist forget to block the windows in F, or are they changing F?

Weird how the 777-300 has five doors each side and the 777-9 (which is longer) has only four.

Hi i don't know why most of hate BA.
In my opinion it's the best Airline I've ever flown.
While i'm normally flying in economy it is better than Virgin and Easy Jet El Al and UIA American and Wizz Air.

@ Duck Ling-
Great point. Hadn't thought of that. What's the reason for this/?

A premium heavy seat product for the 777-9 would be around 275-280 seats. 325 is denser than their v3 of the BA 744 aircraft. Whats more astounding is that this is showing that one can fly with less than 50% of what an A380 can fly with currently without its originally designed length.

@Duck Ling

It could be a function of seat density and evacuation time standards. All the other renders I’ve seen of the 777-9 have five doors on each side. It is not unprecedented at Boeing: some densely configured 737-900s have a fifth RHS door aft of the wing. It could also just be an error, of course, but that seems less likely.

That’s it. The 747-8i is pretty much dead at this announcement.

(Not like the have pretty much the same capacity or anything)
