Funny, China doesn't seem to consider Hong Kong as part of China. China treats flights from the PRC to Hong Kong and Macao as international flights not domestic ones.
To further confuse matters, China Southern, which left Skyteam on January 1, still uses Skyteam-branded materials and you can still use Delta stymiles to book its flights for the "foreseeable future" according to Delta.
... AND all all three are helping further the China Southern severance from SkyTeam and Delta.
@john They’re treated as international flights because there are additional measures in place preventing Chinese domiciled on the mainland from simply going over whenever they want. You know, the “Special Administrative Region” part of the name. Why waste time creating a third system of movement control when it’s already covered?
But whatever, good luck getting a Hong Kong SAR passport without being a PRC citizen.
