I would guess that the reason there's no 'U' class is that is what other oneworld partners have access to. By increasing it slightly, they're restricting business class awards to AAdvantage members only for a small price premium.

Interesting route, but is there really a need for it considering British Airways flies 2x daily in the summer?

For us AS flyers thats great news meaning more award seats!

Is this a planned as a mostly Cargo flight? It does not seem like UK or US passengers can travel this route freely anytime soon without significant restrictions.

Lucky, any idea of current airlines running cargo operations, specifically the big 3.

Their choice to offer awards seats slightly more expensive than the saver level isn't "odd", its completely disingenuous to the point of airlines alliances and the ability to redeem award tickets to where you actually want to go. I wish you more rightfully call them out on how it restricts customer's ability to do so.

Nice to have another option other than BA and their $600 surcharge for award 8 across J seats from Seattle to London....if we can travel to Europe next year.

Well, @Rico, don't get toooo excited about dodging those punishing BA surcharges...because you still get stuck with the UK APD taxes (assuming you plan to fly back from LHR to SEA). That's gonna be over $300 per ticket on this flight for a business class ticket. Yeah, $300 in tax isn't as bad as $300 in tax plus $600 for YQ, but it's still an outrage.

It's certainly easier to avoid paying APD, though, than it is to get out of the BA surcharge.

Along with with @DavidCohen said, it's often impossible to combine an AA award with a OW partner metal.

I've seen TATL U awards ranging from 55k-60k (but NOT 57.5k) and I can't tag a BA, IB, etc flight on to them because they're "milesAAvers"

Dick the current rate of U.K. APD in business class is £ 172 or around $ 220 so no idea where you get “over $300” from.

Happy for people to complain about it but at least be accurate when using figures - especially ones that are easily verifiable.

Is a merger with AS in the works?

I noticed this earlier today when looking for Alaska award flights from SEA-LHR for next April, but due to there not being any sAAver awards available, Alaska only has access to coach. 22.5k + $19 per person, per direction is pretty nice to get to London though.

Adding to the chorus - there’s a very clear, sneaky reason for not releasing saver level seats that you should be well aware of
