American offers 30 minutes of free wifi through February 16, 2012

Per American’s website:

Enjoy 30 Minutes of Complimentary Wi-Fi On Internet-Enabled Flights
Enjoy a complimentary 30 minute Inflight Wi-Fi session from Citi® / AAdvantage® on Internet-enabled flights through February 16. Just enable Wi-Fi on your laptop or handheld device, launch your browser, and follow the instructions to get started.

If I didn’t already pay for a monthly pass I’d actually be excited about this. Hopefully this is useful to some of you.

  1. Aha. I’m on a flight now. Logged in, had immediate access but wasn’t offered any payment plan. I assumed they’d pulled something like auto signing me up for the monthly plan or some such. I wasn’t being allowed to see my account information to see the charges. Live chat was useless and slow. I finally decided to let it slide until I was on the ground, but mysteriously about 30 minutes into use, it forced me to sign in again and pick a payment plan. Mystery solved – it was my freebie.

    Thanks Lucky.

  2. I have an AA MIA GIG flight coming up. 9 hours is a lot longer than 30 minutes, but that’s still okay.

Is this for each device? Ie my iPhone and laptop would be twice?

  3. @ Ben — Unfortunately American doesn’t offer wifi on their longhaul planes, but rather only on select 737s, MD80s, and 767-200 aircraft.

  4. Saw it when I fired up the laptop this morning, of course I have a monthly account. Then again, is there anyone that doesn’t at least KNOW SOMEONE with a monthly account? 😛
