President Trump is claiming that Bombardier can no longer sell planes in the United States. I’m kind of speechless, because nothing about this makes sense… maybe someone can help me make sense of this?

Trump has taken to social media, to post the following:
NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough! Over 50% of their revenue comes from the United States — They live off American Buyers, American Companies, American Airports, and American Service — All while Canada blocks our GREAT American Banks, and Companies, throughout the U.S.A. They even blocked Gulfstream Aerospace from doing business in Canada — Completely unjust and unfair! That Era is OVER! If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a “piggybank.” BUY AMERICAN. FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINERS. ENJOY AMERICAN LIQUOR AND BEVERAGES. SAIL ON LAKE AMERICA. What is Trump even trying to suggest here?
So if this is to be believed, there’s “no more selling Bombardier in the United States.” Trump claims it’s because “their products aren’t good enough,” but obviously this is more of a trade war thing, because he says the company needs to stop treating the United States like a piggybank.
I think the most interesting thing is the line about “BUY AMERICAN. FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINERS.” Bombardier’s current jet program consists of private jets and not commercial jets (though Bombardier CRJ-200s, 700s, 900s, and 1000s, are still in service, but no longer produced). So I guess he’s using “AIRLINERS” to refer to private jets as well?
If this is really all about “flying” American and buying products from the United States, then shouldn’t other foreign produced aircraft also be banned, like the Airbus planes manufactured abroad?
Trump’s trade war with Canada of course isn’t anything new. Even this specific grievance with Bombardier isn’t new. In early 2026, Trump claimed that he had decertified all planes produced in Canada. This was in particular targeted at Bombardier, related to a disagreement over Canada’s certification of Gulfstream jets produced in the United States.
As you’d expect, nothing really came of that. I suspect this will be similar…
Bottom line
Trump claims that there’s “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES.” It’s not clear if he’s suggesting that’s an actual policy he’s implementing (it’s what he’s inferring, at a minimum), or what. He claims Americans are being screwed by Canada, the United States is 50% of the customer base for the planes (yeah, we do have a lot of billionaires), and that Americans should fly American “AIRLINERS” (aka private jets).

This Will affect the trains division more than aircraft.
In fact bombardiers already opens factories in usa to get over the but America act already in place.
The actual impact of this is really in significant other than more bluster and outrage.
The train division is now defunct; they were acquired by Alstom. The C-Series are now the Airbus A220 and the Dash 8s are now De Havilland Canada that uses Pratts.
Bombardier also uses either GE or Honeywell engines. Take a wild guess where GE and Honeywell are based ;)
He’s going to charge Canada tariffs. It’s one thing that the genius can’t spell, it’s another that he’s as economically illiterate as his undereducated supporters.
