Lufthansa Lounge London Heathrow Reopens After Refresh

Lufthansa Lounge London Heathrow Reopens After Refresh

4

Lufthansa has just reopened its busiest lounge outside of Germany, after a renovation that spanned several months.

Basics of the Lufthansa Lounge London Heathrow

The Lufthansa Lounge at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) has reopened as of January 21, 2025, after closing in the fall of 2024 to undergo a renovation. The lounge is located in Terminal 2 (the Queen’s Terminal), and it’s open daily from 4:15AM until 10PM.

The lounge features an expanded space, and now spans 1,600 square meters, with seating for up to 364 guests. The space consists of both a Lufthansa Business Lounge and a Lufthansa Senator Lounge, as you’ll find at many of the Star Alliance carrier’s lounge locations.

It features an upgraded design with new flooring, lighting, and furnishings. The space is also separated into more distinct zones, with everything from private workstations to relaxation areas. Lufthansa also highlights how the lounge has “a touch of London,” in the form of subtle London-inspired design elements. Below you can find some pictures of the updated lounge.

So I’ve gotta say, the lounge design actually looks quite nice, with a bit more personality than the old lounge. Historically, Lufthansa’s lounge locations have just felt so sterile, while this feels a bit more inviting. Now, I do have to wonder how exactly you’re supposed to get up if you’re seated on the bench in the last picture above, but that’s a minor point in the scheme of things. 😉

We know that Lufthansa is rolling out the concept of Allegris Lounges (to complement its long haul cabin experience). I believe the Heathrow location isn’t technically an Allegris Lounge, since it’s not a long haul destination, but that’s not stopping the airline from investing in it.

When it comes to accessing this lounge, it follows standard Star Alliance lounge access policies. It’s accessible by all Star Alliance first and business class passengers, Star Alliance Gold members, and those with the Amex Platinum flying select Lufthansa Group carriers.

Fun fact: this lounge gets 540,000 visitors annually

As I mentioned above, this is Lufthansa’s busiest lounge outside of Germany. So, how many people visit this lounge every year? It’s rare to get this kind of information, but the airline has revealed that 540,000 people visit the lounge annually.

Lufthansa Group has 246 weekly flights from London Heathrow. So if you were to assume that those 540,000 guests are traveling on Lufthansa Group flights, that means an average of 42 people per flight would be accessing lounges.

However, I imagine the number is actually much lower than that, and that lots of the people visiting the lounge are traveling on other airlines. That’s because this is the only Star Alliance lounge in Terminal 2A (meanwhile Terminal 2B has lounges from Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, and United).

Since gate assignments are often only displayed fairly shortly before boarding, I suspect that the lounge picks up quite a bit of traffic of people traveling on other airlines, given that it’s among the first lounges once you pass through security. Given the economics of airport lounges, I imagine this could be quite lucrative for the airline.

Bottom line

The renovated Lufthansa Lounge has reopened at London Heathrow Airport, after a closure lasting a few months. The lounge has been expanded and refreshed, and I must say, it looks quite a bit nicer than before. This is the busiest lounge operated by Lufthansa outside of Germany, so it’s nice to see it getting some love.

What do you make of the updated Lufthansa Lounge London Heathrow?

Is there a HON/F section? (I assume not.)

Which Lufthansa lounges have separate F sections? One idea for a post is listing all carriers that have F lounges/sections at outstations. At least I find that interesting!

There is a separate 'room' at the Boston lounge for F/HON, at IAD there is a small cordoned off area as well, and at JFK there is the wining and dining floor. At EWR there is the first class dining area in the new Allegris lounge

This looks very good, looking forward to see it in person soon.
But, I do wonder what they did with the senator section, as most of the refurbishment was done to the business section. Hopefully we got enhancements at sen lounge too.

I can see that the tables on the background are properly spaced out. So, I'd imagine they overdesigned the layout (for the purposes of the photo) without thinking of practical matters (just like Allegris).
