American Airlines has just opened its new Admirals Club at Newark Airport (EWR), and it’s only the second lounge to feature the carrier’s new lounge design motif.

Basics of the new American Admirals Club Newark

As of September 6, 2023, American Airlines has opened its brand new Admirals Club at Newark Airport. The 7,050-square foot lounge has a seating capacity for 137 guests, and is located on the mezzanine level, close to gates A7 and A8. The lounge is open daily from 4:00AM until 7:30PM.

The lounge has windows with views of the apron, and a variety of seating options, including cafe chairs, bar stools, soft seating, booth seating, high top tables, and a communal table. There’s complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the lounge, with all seats having access to AC and USB outlets, and 90% of seats having wireless smartphone charging pads.

In late 2022, American revealed a new Admirals Club design concept. This debuted at the Admirals Club Washington National (DCA), and now Newark is the second location to get this design. American describes the lounge’s design as drawing “architectural inspiration from the serene pavilions found in park-like settings.” The lounge has local nature-inspired art, including Newark cherry blossoms from Branch Brook Park.

American recently refreshed its Admirals Club catering, and the new lounge will have some improved options. Specifically:

  • During breakfast hours, guests can choose from Belgian waffles, a quiche tartlet, fruit, bacon, and pastries
  • All-day options include pastrami sliders, falafel served with cucumber tzatziki, a quinoa, kale and edamame salad, an antipasto salad, meats and cheeses, and desserts, including black and white cookies, brownies, and macrons
  • Guests can also choose from the new complimentary regional signature cocktail American Trilogy, and the locally inspired Bloody Mary cocktail, the Jersey Tomato Bloody Mary

Below you can see some of the pictures of the new Admirals Club Newark, which American has shared.

How to access American Admirals Clubs

There are a variety of ways to access American Admirals Clubs, ranging from buying an Admirals Club membership, to having elite status and being on an eligible itinerary.

Personally I access Admirals Clubs using the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (review), which is one of my all around favorite airline credit cards. The card has a $595 annual fee, and offers an Admirals Club membership for the primary cardmember. In and of itself that represents cost savings compared to a membership, as the cheapest cost for an Admirals Club membership is higher than that.

This Admirals Club also follows standard oneworld lounge access rules, so if you’re on an eligible oneworld itinerary, you’d get access to this lounge as well.

See my guide to American Admirals Club access.

Bottom line

American has opened its new Admirals Club at Newark Airport, which is only the second lounge to feature the carrier’s new design concept. This Admirals Club looks great, and is a solid option for those traveling out of United’s mega-hub on American.

What do you make of the new American Admirals Club Newark?

Hey anyone know if Alaska is going to move to Terminal A?

I fly to NYC from SEA a couple times a year and EWR is sometimes cheaper, but with the Admirals Club moved to A there’s no lounge for Alaska Lounge + members to use at EWR anymore. So I might just eat the extra cost and go in/out of JFK if AS stays in Terminal B at EWR.

Nicer food options than the new Admirals club at DCA, which the only area that lounge is lacking in (the Delta Sky Cluub at DCA still has better food options).

Nice, PHX high A is soon to be expanded and redone, then the other two Admirals Clubs at Skyharbor (you know the hub everyone said AA would leave for LAX and now is the fourth most profitable and growing) :)

Glad to see AA opening these up around the country. Now bring one to DFW please!

“The country” is the coasts. Only our large coastal metros have people of the socioeconomic status to support an airport lounge. The middle of the country is backwards, uneducated, and doesn’t (can’t afford) travel.

Uhh… thank you for sharing your thoughts, Geary… I’m sure the people in Nashville, Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, and Milwaukee, and thousands of prosperous small towns will find them interesting.
