Update: Unfortunately these fares seem to be dead.
I’ll keep it short and sweet. JetBlue just put its much anticipated flights between New York and London on sale, which feature the carrier’s all new Mint Suite and Mint Studio.
JetBlue’s pricing is much cheaper out of the UK than the US if you’re just looking to fly nonstop between New York and London, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise. However, there’s a way to get a huge discount.
While Mint fares from New York to London are pricing at $1,920 roundtrip, you can save a lot by originating elsewhere.
For example, there are Mint fares from San Juan to London (via New York) for $795 roundtrip, which is nearly 60% off. Note that the flight from San Juan to New York doesn’t feature a Mint cabin. But still, if you can save $1,100+, this is a detour that could be worth making.
Fares will in some cases be equally low out of other markets. This seems to come down to fuel surcharges being significantly lower out of other cities, and the biggest component of these fares is the fuel surcharges.
Right now JetBlue is also charging only $129 to assign the Mint Studio (the two more spacious seats in the first row), meaning you could potentially fly roundtrip in the Mint Studio both ways for just over $1,000.
Book now, because this is unlikely to last!
Probably for the best the fares are dead. I think people were jumping the gun with the UK. They are now saying they are in the start of a third wave of covid and some countries are blocking tourists who are coming from there. Kind of surprising the UK is still having these issues.
I doubt these fares are going to be the normal. They must Def be promotional. London charges about 200 usd for coach Pax (taxes) and 350 for business. I think they want to attract customers.
I don’t see the deal here. If it were a mistake first class fare on SWISS or Air France that would be different story. After all we’ve been through. Looking for something more lucrative than this.
Interesting, and it's nice to see Europe opening again. I would just caution people do their homework. I was in transit in FRA earlier in the week and whatever restrictions the German government has in place, it was severe enough that LH won't let you consume any food or drink in their lounge. When I got thirsty and wanted a simple drink of water, I had to exit the lounge. That doesn't bode well for doing things our on the town I wouldn't think.
I snagged a fair out of RDU for a little more than $800 RT for November. Will be first time flying Mint but hoping JetBlue's expansion sticks in my home market, since I enjoy flying with them. Layover at JFK isn't too bad and figure I can just work from the terminal anyways. Thanks for posting.
I booked one from Denver this morning for $900. Just went to book another one and they're gone -- now $2,800 for same flights.
I think they’re all gone!!
Trading $1100 for a minimum extra 5 hours in each direction. For someone in the Northeast its an extra 10 hours each way!
I assume there's no way to hacker fare when you only want to take the second flight?
I thought it was an error flight when I booked this morning from FLL to London over Thanksgiving. Amazing deal for Mint!
At first I thought how is this a deal but then I opened the email from JetBlue crowing about Mint r/t "from $1,979" and then I realized: this is a deal!
@ Derek… not sure what your basis for alot of cases in the UK is as they had 2,400 yesterday and just under 2,000 2 days ago. I suspect they trend line will continue to be positive. If you don’t want to travel fine, but don’t act perplexed that Ben or anyone else would want to fly to the UK.
That's roughly a 5 hour layover at JFK. Ok so I'll admit I don't fly JetBlue much but is there a lounge where a Mint passenger can wait at at JFK?
JetBlue files fares to LHR with a high YQ and immediately falls victim to the most dangerous kind of pricing error- unintended combinations of fares leading to the YQ not applying and thus each ticket being more than $1400 cheaper. Should have done some quality checking before the big announcement, this makes it seem like amateur hour in Long Island City.
@ Ben -- Coach SJU-JFK? Ewwwww.
If t here wasn't a pandemic, I go. With so many cases in the US and UK, thus is not the time to go unless you are Ben, whose professional life depends on flights like this and writing. Ugh.
