Online shopping portals can be a great way to pick up additional miles & points for purchases you’d make anyway. Just for following a specific link you can earn bonus points in addition to the ones you’d earn for credit card spend. The number of bonus points you earn per dollar spent varies greatly by retailer, though in addition to those variable bonuses, there are often promotions that are available on all purchases.
Today the United MileagePlus Shopping portal has introduced a new “fall bonus” for shopping, offering up to 1,500 MileagePlus bonus miles. The promotion is valid for purchases between October 1 and October 15, and is tiered as follows:
- Spend $150, earn 500 bonus miles
- Spend $350, earn 1,500 bonus miles
In other words, if you spend $350 you’d earn an extra ~4.3 MileagePlus miles per dollar spent. Keep in mind that this is in addition to whatever miles you usually earn through the MileagePlus Shopping portal and through your credit card.
The bonus is based on your cumulative spend over the promotion period, and bonus miles should post within 10 weeks of when the promotion ends. There’s no registration required to take advantage of this deal.
This isn’t a reason to make a purchase you don’t otherwise need to make, but if you are doing some online shopping, this promotion is most definitely worth keeping in mind, as you’re earning up to ~4.3 miles per dollar spent, plus whatever the mileage bonus is through the shopping portal, plus whatever you earn through your credit card. That can really add up.
Also keep in mind that between October 1 and December 31 the Chase Freedom® Card is offering 5x points at department stores, and these often participate in online shopping portals. So you could qualify for this bonus in addition to whatever bonus points are usually offered through the portal, and also earn 5x points with your credit card.
