There are four Star Alliance lounges at Heathrow Terminal 2, operated by Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore, and United. Due to Star Alliance regulations, all first class passengers can use all Star Alliance first class lounges, while all Star Alliance business class and Star Gold passengers can use all business class lounges.
Given the high standards that Singapore Airlines is known for, I was curious to check out their Heathrow lounge and see where it ranked in my list of best airport lounges.
The Singapore Airlines Lounge London is located just a short walk from the United lounge, right next to the Air Canada lounge.
Entrance to Singapore Airlines Lounge London Heathrow
This required taking the elevator up a level.

Upon exiting the elevator the Air Canada lounge was to the left, while the Singapore lounge was to the right.

The associate at the front desk was friendly, and upon presenting my United boarding pass she invited me into the first class lounge, without even suggesting that I could use the United lounge.
The first class lounge was located to the left of the reception desk, and was fairly intimate.
The first half of the lounge was mostly dedicated to dining, with some dining tables along the windows, plus a dining area in the center of the lounge with one long couch connecting many tables.

At the very front of the lounge were several comfortable leather chairs, along with a wine and snack display.

The back half of the lounge was dedicated to relaxing. Towards the front was a row of seats facing the two “aisles” of the lounge.

Then towards the back were some really neat seats that almost look like Singapore Airlines’ new business class.

On one hand I love these seats since they’re so cool and have built in reading lights and power outlets. At the same time, they’re a bit impractical, as it’s tough to get comfortable while sitting in them, regardless of whether you’re trying to work or relax.

There were also a couple of private areas with leather chairs that were great for relaxing.

Then there was a TV area. I was a bit annoyed that the TV was turned up quite loud, which meant it could be heard in the whole lounge. I suppose I could have asked them to turn it down.

The bathrooms were in the very back of the lounge, and as seems to be the norm for Singapore Airlines lounges, there were plenty of amenities, like toothbrushes, combs, etc.

There were also a couple of shower rooms.

There was only ever one other person in the lounge, so one of the nice things was how intimate the lounge felt. I also liked that the lounge had tarmac views, unlike the United lounge. Admittedly the views are somewhat limited as the lounge is in the center of the concourse which is furthest from the taxiways, but it’s better than nothing.

The part of the lounge that underwhelmed me was the food selection.
Singapore Airlines First Class Lounge London buffet
The breakfast selection was quite basic, and there was no a la carte dining option, best I could tell. There was cereal, yogurt, smoothies, muffins, danishes, etc.

Then there were scrambled eggs as well as some croissants in one of those things that maintains temperature, that personally I associate with a convenience store.

There was also a selection of beer, wine, soft drinks, etc. There was Laurent Perrier champagne on offer as well, the same United serves in the Global First Lounge.

As mentioned above, near the entrance to the lounge was a selection of red wine, as well as some nuts and snack mix.

Service in the lounge was attentive, as there was one person there to serve the area, even though it was mostly empty. So I was frequently offered drink refills.

I also decided to check out the business class section of the lounge, which I also found to be underwhelming. Even though the lounge is only a couple of years old, I feel like it was poorly furnished, as many things already looked past their prime. I’m not sure if the pictures convey that or not.
There was a buffet area near the entrance of the lounge.

Then there was a hallway with some tables along the wall, as well as some high-top seating across from it.

The lounge also had the same cool semi-private seats that were in the first class lounge.

Near the center of the lounge was a bar area with all kinds of cocktails, beer, wine, etc.

Personally I was most excited to see the ice cream selection, including Singapore Sling ice cream… mmmm!

There was also an espresso machine, which was better than the one in the United lounge.

Oddly the business class selection was significantly better than the first class selection.
Singapore Lounge London bottom line
Given that Singapore Airlines is usually a leader in the industry, I was underwhelmed by this lounge, especially since it’s still fairly new.
The first class lounge was furnished nicely, though I still preferred the decor of the United lounge. On top of that, the United lounge had a significantly better food selection.
As far as the business class section goes, the food selection was quite good, while I found the decor of the lounge to be inconsistent. There were parts that felt dark and cheaply designed, while other areas felt fairly nice.
All things considered, I’d prefer the United Global First Lounge as a Star Alliance first class passenger, and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge as a Star Alliance business class passenger or Star Gold.
If you’ve visited multiple Star Alliance lounges at Heathrow, which is your favorite?
With a Lufthansa Business Class ticket without Star Gold status, this lounge, in my opinion, is ways better than the LH Business Lounge. More comfortable and a wider food selection. So, the 10-15 Minutes walk to the A gates were absolutely worth it.
Sorry, AND I got a buggy escort from lounge to gate.
I flew SQ First on 7th Dec 2016 from LHR T2 and used their First Class lounge. They do have an A La Carte menu. I had Nasi Lemak and Hainanese Chicken rice which were pretty good.
That's the idea, actually. Offer wnderwhelming lounges, so discerning mile-bloated over-entitled (in a good way) passengers go to other lounges and keep the lounge overheads low. :)
This is great to know. I have a flight in SQ Suites coming up LHR-SIN and was actually debating whether to go to the UA GFL or the SQ lounge. I think I'll do exactly as you did, having breakfast in the United lounge and then relaxing in the KrisFlyer lounge afterwards.
Does anyone happen to know if SQ escorts their Suites/First pax from lounge to plane at LHR?
no escort
Regarding "Due to Star Alliance regulations" this works out great at Dulles and DTW with LH but not so much at SFO with SQ and then there is Swiss. Whole threads on FT about it.
SQ F lounge definitely has a la carte prior to their night flight. Probably just don't bother for non SQ flight times which is fair enough
The rendang was particularly yummy.
I tried SQ biz class for the first time earlier this year, transitting at their home base SIN to SYD. Maybe i was expecting too much... the biz lounges in both T2 & T3 were nice, but rather underwhelming (food, facilities) for home base. CX does a much better job at HKG (excellent design, showers, food selection).

As for their seat, on the A380 it's awesome in terms of real estate but not as comfy sleeping on a diagonal; also much prefer to turn seat to bed without getting up & flipping the back down... service is great as expected; book-the-cook was awesome but the breakfast part of an 8-hr red eye was disappointing - even LH serves a better continental breakfast on their TATLs. Curious to try EY now to see how they fare...
I agree SQ lounges are really not industry leaders . Mediocre at best. Virgin club house now that's something else
Perhaps C would like to explain why he/she spends time reading nonsense and entitled garbage .
LIke is too short to do that.
When I was at the SQ's First Class Lounge last year, they actually had a lunch menu to order from.
"one of those things that maintains temperature, that personally I associate with a convenience store"
Seriously? So how else do you suggest they keep the food warm? In some customized gleaming Royal Selangor platter on a special keep warm plate for you? This blog used to be much better when it started out. But the blogger has lost the plot. Not anywhere near "nonsense and entitled garbage", but there certainly are little whiffs here and there nowadays.
When I flew Air New Zealand out of LHR I asked the check-in clerk which lounge she would recommend.
She said go to Singapore for the food and then United for the (fabulously long) bar and drinks. Worked out fine.
The Person writing under the name C is a bit rude and probably should have kept his her opinions to themselves.
How can be United Airlines be better ? Thier lounge for business class/ Gold card members is a pure horror same as those crap in US. I felt good in SQ lounge but the Indian staff was really disappointing. Lufthansa lounge is the same as other lounges in Germany....nothing nice about it... same booring design... same booring kartoffeln salad and cheap sparkling wines. The design of Air Canada is original and nice but the food...

The design of Air Canada is original and nice but the food is always mixed depends of your departure day. One time you get really good stuff one time you want to change the lounge. But anyhow. It's good to have our Star Alliance lounger there in one terminal. Champagne and tap water for everyone.
Lucky, any reason why you didn't review the LH lounge on this trip since you haven't yet?
Have you been to the LH lounge at T2? Compared to the other 3 my ranking for business class is...
Air Canada Maple Leaf
Lufthansa Senator
Singapore Kris Lounge
UA Club
Thoughts on my ranking?
UA lounge at T2 has the best showers. In fact those are one of the best business lounge showers pretty much everywhere.
AC has nice laid back atmosphere and probably the best views of the tarmac, but is crowded most of the time.
LH lounge has a nice view of the runaway and the taxiways, so you can watch planes queue and take off.
SQ has very attentive staff at the dining area, but gets crowded for the SQ flights (which is understandable).
What? No review of the Singapore Sling ice cream on offer? Tsk tsk tsk ;)
Don't know about the AC lounge but I do know that Sodexho caters both the SQ and UC lounges. When I was there in July, the Western food was the same in both lounges (J lounges only).
Next time you should check out the LH Lounge in 2A. I believe it's DO&CO and probably has the best food of the bunch.
Surprisingly though, UC was my favorite - IMO, the bar in the UC is top notch of a J lounge and the best in the UC system
Just want to understand what is Important for a First Class passenger who paid 10K+ USD ?
Is it Exceptional Lounge and Average hard and soft product
or is it average Lounge and Exceptional hard and soft product ?
you know what is underwhelming?........the nonsense and entitled garbage you write on this blog
Are SQ lounges ever really industry leading? I mean, even the Private Room in SIN (while a beautiful and quietly intimate lounge) is hardly industry leading. I would argue that other parts of SQ's operation, including inflight, are of course industry leading. Their lounges are definitely above average, but not exceptional.
