The Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card is one of American Express’ newest business cards, as it launched in March 2026. On the surface, the card sounds rather uncompetitive — it has a $295 annual fee (Rates & Fees), and offers “just” 2% cash back on everyday spending, with limited bonus categories.
However, there are some things that could make this card worthwhile, including a potentially lucrative welcome offer, no preset spending limit, and some credits that can help offset the annual fee. If your business spends a lot, you value having an Amex, and you just want to earn simple cash back without a complex rewards structure, this could be a good option.
This post is my in-depth review of the Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited. Is the card worth it, and if so, under what circumstances? And what are the best alternatives?

Beyond that, here are what I consider to be some of the major pros and cons of the Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited:
- Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited Card pros include the solid welcome offer, the lack of a preset spending limit, and the consistent 2% cash back on spending
- Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited Card cons include the high annual fee, given that the card offers a pretty industry standard 2% return on spending

Amex Graphite Business Cash Card bonus, fees, rewards, and credits
With the above out of the way, let’s look at the various aspects of the Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited, from the welcome offer, to the fees, to the rewards structure, to the other perks. This card is fairly straightforward, so there’s not all that much to understand, for better or worse.
Graphite Business Card $1,500 cash back welcome offer
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited currently has a welcome offer where you can earn $1,500 cash back after spending $50,000 within the first six months. Rewards Dollars can be redeemed as statement credits to offset transactions, or as a payment method for Amazon purchases.
Given that the card ordinarily offers at least 2% cash back, that means spending $50,000 would earn you a minimum of $2,500, equivalent to 5% cash back on that amount of spending, which is solid. Admittedly the spending requirement is big (it averages out to $8,333 per month over the course of six months), but I do think businesses that spend a lot might find this to be achievable.
Graphite Business Card $295 annual fee
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited has an annual fee of $295 (Rates & Fees), which is definitely on the steep side, especially given the relatively narrow appeal of the credits offered on the card, which require a lot of spending.
With the card’s 2% cash back rewards structure, you’d essentially recoup the annual fee (in terms of rewards) after $14,750 in spending.
Graphite Business Card $95 authorized user fee
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited has an authorized user fee of $95 (Rates & Fees), though you can also get a no annual fee Employee Business Expense Card with no additional fee. Still, that’s a rather steep authorized user fee for a card that doesn’t actually offer many incremental perks. You can add up to 99 employee cards to your account.
Graphite Business Card no preset spending limit
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited has no preset spending limit. The idea is that this gives you flexibility in ways that traditional credit cards don’t. The amount you can spend adapts based on factors such as your purchase, payment, and credit history. Rather than having a set limit, you could grow your purchasing power the more you consistently use your card and regularly make payments.
In fairness, it is also worth mentioning that not having a preset spending limit can also lead to some declines if the amount you can charge decreases, so it’s a little less predictable than a regular credit card. However, I find that more often than not, it works in the favor of cardmembers.
Graphite Business Card 2-5% cash back rewards
In terms of its rewards structure, the Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited offers a minimum of unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases. On top of that, the card offers 5% cash back on flights and prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel Online.
All cash back on the card is earned as Rewards Dollars, which can be redeemed as statement credits to offset transactions, or as a payment method for Amazon purchases.
2% cash back on credit card spending is the “gold standard,” as I see it, so that’s excellent, and what everyone should be aiming for, at a minimum. Meanwhile the 5% cash back on Amex Travel might sound appealing, but there are some catches. If you can route travel spending that way, it’s a good option, but the catch is that you may sometimes find lower rates elsewhere, so there could be an opportunity cost to booking that way.
Graphite Business Card up to $2,400 statement credits
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited offers up to $2,400 in American Express One AP statement credits, after spending $250,000 on eligible purchases on the card in a calendar year. Statement credits will be applied to the monthly bill charged to the card for Amex’s accounts payable solution, One AP.
American Express One AP is an accounts payable solution that can help transform the way your business pays suppliers. With One AP, you can streamline your supplier invoice payments on a single platform and pay by virtual card, check, and ACH. Enrollment is required.
Graphite Business Card Pay Over Time feature
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Unlimited offers the Pay Over Time feature, whereby cardmembers can carry a balance with interest on eligible charges, up to the Pay Over Time limit. The way this works, eligible charges will automatically be added to a Pay Over Time balance, up to the Pay Over Time limit.
You can choose to pay for these charges over time with interest, or you can pay your full balance each month, whichever is best for your business. You must pay in full any charge or a portion of a charge that is not added to a Pay Over Time balance.
Personally, I recommend paying the balance in full each billing cycle if possible, to avoid interest charges. However, I think it’s worth clarifying that the Pay Over Time option is possible, given that this isn’t a traditional credit card.
Is the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card worth it?
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Card earns 2% cash back, and I consider that to be the minimum “gold standard” of credit card rewards. So the card’s rewards structure is perfectly fine. The 5% cash back on travel is also pretty limiting, given that you have to book through Amex.
I think the issue is the steep annual fee, given that there are also much more affordable (and even no annual fee) cards with that kind of a rewards structure. In fairness, Amex doesn’t have another business card earning unlimited 2% cash back, so this is at least a new product for the card issuer. It’s just not a new concept more broadly, and there are lots of competing cards that I’d consider to be superior.
So who should consider the card? As I see it, the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card is targeted at a specific demographic. This card could make sense for the following types of customers:
- Those who can take advantage of the welcome offer — earning $1,500 cash back is excellent, and of course that assumes you actually spend enough to unlock the welcome offer
- Those who value the lack of a preset spending limit, since this can of course make a big difference for businesses that frequently make large purchases
- Those who value the excellent consumer protection that Amex is known for on purchases, which can make a difference for many small business owners when things don’t go as planned
- Those who can take advantage of the American Express One AP statement credits, assuming that’s something you value
I do truly think this is a niche product. But the idea is that if you’re a small business owner charging hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars on credit cards per year, that annual fee won’t make much of a difference.
Still, I’d like to compare this to some other popular products, as I think there are other cards that may be a better fit for some other people.
Amex Graphite Business vs. Amex Blue Business Cash comparison
Perhaps the best direct comparison to the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card is The American Express Blue Business Cash® Card (learn more). The card has no annual fee (Rates & Fees) and offers 2% cash back on the first $50,000 spent every calendar year (and 1% cash back thereafter).
The upside here is obvious, as you’re earning 2% cash back with no fee. The downside is that the welcome offer is much smaller (though also with a smaller spending requirement), the card has foreign transaction fees, you’re capped at earning 2% cash back on the first $50,000 spent annually, and the card does have a preset spending limit.
For a small business mostly spending money domestically, the Amex Blue Business Cash is a great alternative to the Amex Graphite Business Cash.
Amex Graphite Business vs. Amex Blue Business Plus comparison
Another potential alternative to the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card is The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (learn more). The card has no annual fee (Rates & Fees) and offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent every calendar year (and 1x points thereafter).
If you’re good at redeeming points, that’s a pretty incredible return, since based on my latest miles & points valuations, Amex points are worth 1.7 cents each, for a return of up to 3.4%. The downsides to the Amex Blue Business Plus are otherwise identical to those on the Amex Blue Business Cash — the welcome offer is much smaller (though also with a smaller spending requirement), the card has foreign transaction fees, you’re capped at earning 2x points on the first $50,000 spent annually, and the card does have a preset spending limit.
Amex Graphite Business vs. Amex Business Gold comparison
Speaking of premium Amex business cards, it’s also worth comparing the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card to the American Express® Business Gold Card (learn more). The Amex Business Gold has a $375 annual fee (Rates & Fees), and offers an incredible rewards structure (with up to 4x Membership Rewards points in select categories), plus statement credits that can greatly help offset the annual fee.
As I see it, the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card is the better option if you value cash back and a straightforward rewards structure, while the Amex Business Gold is the better option if you can take advantage of the bonus categories, and are willing to put in the effort to maximize points.
Amex Graphite Business vs. Capital One Spark Cash Plus comparison
While the above comparisons are all to Amex cards, I think it’s also worth comparing the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card to the Capital One Spark Cash Plus (learn more), as it’s perhaps the most direct competitor.
The card also has a massive welcome offer, offers a minimum of 2% cash back with no caps and no foreign transaction fees, and it has a $150 annual fee. Furthermore, the card offers an annual bonus of $150 if you spend at least $150,000 on the card in a calendar year, essentially rebating the annual fee.
I do think the Capital One Spark Cash Plus is more compelling than the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card on balance, unless you specifically have a reason you’d like an Amex, or value the statement credits tied to spending $250,000 per year.
Amex Graphite Business vs. Chase Ink Premier comparison
I’d also like to compare the Amex Graphite Business Cash Card to the Ink Business Premier® Credit Card (learn more), as it’s another potentially lucrative cash back card.
In addition to a big welcome offer, the card offers a minimum of 2% cash back on all purchases, and 2.5% cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more, all with no foreign transaction fees, and a $195 annual fee. So if you have a business that frequently makes large purchases, the Chase Ink Business Premier could be a great alternative.
Amex Graphite Business Cash Card FAQs
Bottom line
The Amex Graphite Business Cash Card is one of Amex’s newest business cards. The card has a $295 annual fee, and offers unlimited 2% cash back, with no preset spending limit, plus a large welcome offer. The card also offers up to $2,400 in American Express One AP statement credits, after spending $250,000 on eligible purchases on the card in a calendar year.
Ultimately I’d consider this to be a niche card. The card could be worth getting for the excellent welcome offer, and it could be worth it if you have a business that spends a huge amount, and values the lack of a preset spending limit, the card’s Amex branding, and/or the statement credits.
Beyond that, though, I tend to think there are better options. If you’re not a huge spender, the Amex Blue Business Cash and Amex Blue Business Plus are excellent options. If you’re willing to maximize points and bonus categories, consider the Amex Business Gold. And if you’re looking for the best direct alternative that’s arguably more lucrative, consider the Capital One Spark Cash Plus.

I think it is important to understand why companies might sign up for this. The real perk they are offering compared to their other cards like the Blue Cash Business card is the no pre-set spending limit. For a major company this would be an advantage. Also, consider the speinding for the welcome bonus would not be a problem for a company. In addition, having the cash back could be important when running a business...

Those that are in business for themself may not encounter such issues.
Oof. Lame. Like Plum.
RIP Plum. I wanted to like it, I really did...
Prob makes more sense to have multiple amex blue for business cards than this
HARD PASS! Why would anyone get this card over the Wells Fargo signify card which gets 2% back with zero annual fee?!?! Don’t normalize this behavior of wanting to charge us $295 for the “privilege” of earning 2% cash back. RIDICULOUS!
Wells Fargo is also a hard pass with a 3% foreign transaction fee.
Hobbyists are going to complain about the annual fee. High-spending business owners are not. But, high-spending business owners will note the flexibility of the Spark Cash Plus having the ability to either take the cash back or convert to transferable points.
