When to close credit card?

When to close credit card?

  1. William Thompson New Member

I’m new to the rewards/points hobby but already love it. I’ve signed up for some basic cards based off my spending habits (Amex everyday preferred and chase sapphire). I also have cards from before my days following this blog (delta Amex and Starwood Amex)

While there is a lot of commentary on signing up for cards, when do you suggest closing credit cards accounts? I understand it can have a negative impact short term but is there a benefit to closing cards and then re applying for the bonus after a certain period lapses?

Thanks for all your great content, definitely hooked since I started a few months ago.

    William
