Upgrade with miles or Award booking?

Upgrade with miles or Award booking?

    Hello!

    I’m doing JFK-BKK-JFK in September.

I have 70k Skymiles to use, which will get me one way in either direction (business class) on Koreans A380, which would be awesome. For the other flight I was going to buy Alaska miles and treat myself to Emirates first, out of BKK, but then the devaluation happened.

So….I’m wondering if I should just splurge on the one way 70k seat and maybe take an economy seat back to JFK or is it possible to buy an economy round trip fare with Delta and upgrade both legs with those miles?

I can’t seem to find the amount of miles required to do this but the economy round trip with them is almost $1600, which is nuts.

Any advice on how the Delta system work upgrades from economy? I have no status with them as I’m new to points/miles.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dave

Upgrades through Delta are not worth your time unless someone else is paying for the ticket.

I would use your delta miles in one direction, and then use the Alaska miles for Cathay Pacific!
