Thai Aircraft Swap: My Options?

Thai Aircraft Swap: My Options?

  1. wilve Member

So, Thai Airways swapped the A380 I was booked to fly on from Bangkok to Osaka in First Class to an A350 plane. Unfortunately, the A350 has no First Class cabin, so this means a downgrade to Business Class. Thai does have a second flight to Osaka on an A380, so I was going to request to swap to that flight.

My main question is this: My reservation is on a United Airlines award ticket. Who should I contact first to request this change: United or Thai?

(My flight from Seoul to Bangkok was also downgraded from a 747 to an A350, although there are no flights from Seoul to Bangkok on the day I fly that have First Class, so I am less hopeful that I can do anything about that)

You made the reservation with United so I would definitely start with them. Seems like in the past I’ve read that’s a good enough reason to change your reservation so they should be willing to waive the change fee.

If your arrangements are flexible enough that your could change your ICN-BKK flight to another day when the 747 does fly, you could certainly ask.

Thanks! I’ll ask ’em about changing my flight to Osaka. For Seoul I might be outta luck though; looks like there’s no 747 flying near my dates…

If there is award space they should be able to make the change pretty easily. If theres no award space, get UA and TG on the phone so they can work together to get you on the other flight.

Just called United, and was able to transfer to the earlier flight from Bangkok to Osaka. However, because the aircraft didn’t update on United’s end, I’m booked into Business Class on their Boeing 747… I figure I’ll wait and see if the aircraft updates on United’s website, and request my First Class seat in the meantime. And if there’s a problem doing that… then back to the call center we go!
