Stolen miles on an AA award travel class reduction

Stolen miles on an AA award travel class reduction

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Lucky,

My wife and I booked award travel on AA from DFW to ICN in first class prior to the award chart devaluation. We were recently contacted by AA and they informed us that our outbound and return flights have changed and are no longer offering 3 classes of service, and we would be bumped to business class. I do not have an issue with AA no longer offering first class, however the issue is the discrepancy in the award mileage between the two classes.

At the time we booked, a first class award (62,500) and a Business Class award (50,000) was a difference of 12,500 miles. If you take our four segments into account, I should be refunded a total of 50,000 miles.

When I spoke with AA this afternoon they were initially only willing to re-book my wife and I in business class and award us the difference of our first class award ticket and the CURRENT award value of 60,000 miles for business class, which would only return 10,000 miles to my account. After I raised a fuss they said they would credit an additional 5,000 miles per segment to my account for a total of 30,000 miles. I immediately pointed out that I’d be losing 20,000 miles for something that has absolutely nothing to do with me (i.e. the paying customer).

The young lady I was speaking with understood my frustration and informed me that is all she could authorize on her level, however she would attempt to escalate my situation to management. I should have a call back within 24 to 48 hours, however I’m hoping you can provide additional assistance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Keith,

That sounds super frustrating, but I think you’re on the right track. I would keep following up with AAdvantage Customer Service and see what can be done. Good luck!

Agreed. If they want to use the new rates tell them you’d be happy to accept the 20,000 OW difference :).
