Anonymous GuestCurrently Marriott silver (by default of having the chase cc) which according to the program link website gives me SPG preferred plus.
Does anyone know if having the SPG Amex also gives preferred plus status?

SPG Amex does not give any kind of SPG status. The Amex Platinum card comes with SPG Gold status, which then is eligible for Marriott Gold status

You can earn SPG Gold status by spending $30K on the SPG card each year.
Edit: And assuming your SPG & Marriott accounts are linked, it also gives you Marriott Gold status.
