i am looking at the new spg luxury card. we have the marrriott premier plus cards for my wife and myself. we will use the 300 credit if it includes the room and the 50k would easily be over the 150 where we travel. how valuable is the gold status for we do like upgrades. would this upgrade help us if we redeem points for we are either going to bora bora and wonder what if anythng it does or Japan where we would redeem points for Ritz Carltons there. thanks.

I was Gold for a few years before working up to more travel and Platinum with Marriott. I found that upgrades as a Gold were much easier overseas (compared to in the US). So, you’d probably be okay in Japan. On the other hand, resort areas like Bora Bora and many Ritz Carlton’s would be much more difficult. More aspirational properties that people might actually pay outright for a suite upgrade.
