I am new to redeeming AA miles; recently, I had several family members get the Barclay US Air card and we are trying to make best use of these miles that are spread out through several accounts without paying transfer fees. I have two questions:
1. Can we use miles from one account to book a Y ticket and then use miles from another ticket to upgrade to J?
2. Can we book a ticket in Y, wait for the 10% back to post and then upgrade the ticket to J partially using those miles?
Thanks so much!
@ Sarah —
1) All the miles for a single award have to come out of a single account, unfortunately.
2) You would have to redeposit the ticket and book again, but in theory if the 10% refund posts (which takes a few weeks, usually) that should be possible.
